Athletic also says they favour a Championship loan - Kompany’s Burnley maybe

I’m getting a little nervy re striker now. Think our new signings look sound enough, but we are clearly screaming out for one of those men that can kick the ball in the net!

The club will be working hard to address this behind the scenes. The important thing to remember is the club keep things as quiet as possible until the deal is pretty much done. Look at ABK. I'm not too concerned yet.

Excuse my ignorance but why would they favour a championship loan? Wouldn't you want to test your future striker at as high a level as possible, and if he is good he could help take points off their rival teams too.

    Could be;

    1. Simply they want to do a favour for Kompany. Help him get a promotion on his CV.

    2. They are bitter toward us for taking Shields, Bazunu, Lavia (I have no idea at all about this - just a possibility?).

    3. They think Delap will have a better experience in a side chasing promotion rather than a side fighting a relegation battle.

    4. Maybe he's just not ready for Premiership defences week-in week-out.

This was my thoughts too. Maybe the City coaches don’t think he’s ready for the PL and think he’ll end up not getting as much game time when we also realise that?

    1. Seems like nonsense

    2. They agreed to sell the players. Maybe on the recruiter

    3. Far from guaranteed that Burnley will be chasing promotion

    4. The most likely

In the Championship there would be more games and more game time and traditionally it is more physical as well

I think it it the loan they prefer, not specifically a Championship loan.

It seems only us and Burnley are in for him, us on a permanent deal vs Burnley on a loan. If we were keen on a loan too I imagine all parties would prefer him to join us.

Wow. A painful example of why clubs try to steer clear of double deals.

(concerning a player Saints allegedly held interest in)

    --

Nottingham Forest's double deal for Lewis O'Brien and Harry Toffolo has collapsed at the last-minute, with one of the players at the City Ground waiting to be officially confirmed.

Forest had verbally agreed a structured package in the region of £10 million for the Huddersfield Town pair at the weekend and O'Brien arrived in Nottingham to take his medical and fulfil all the media obligations that go with a new signing.

However, the Toffolo deal has broken down because of an issue over personal terms for the left-wing back. Toffolo has the same adviser as Neco Williams, Forest's recent signing from Liverpool, and have been unable to meet the player's requirements.

That has had a spin-off effect on the O'Brien transfer because it was arranged as a double deal with Huddersfield. As it stands, both deals are off and O'Brien has effectively been stranded in Nottingham, having expected to be announced later today.

Was 10m per player I think

Weird that it would lead the other one to collapse. Perhaps Huddersfield think O Brien is worth more than the 10m and were happy with the 20m combined. Might also be some sell ons that they are trying to avoid like Spurs did a few years back

football.london understands that he was initially happy with the arrangement on loan last season, feeling that playing under Ralph Hassenhuttl was a good way to build league experience and develop himself. After some promising bursts of form on the south coast, the Austrian manager was quick to assert himself and the club onto Broja.

This was a quick rise for Broja who went from being given his first true preseason opportunity under Tuchel last season, which he took with an impressive set of performances in friendlies, to being a sought after young forward. His breakthrough season at Southampton saw him score six league goals.

At this point it is believed that Broja was keen to keep his options open with interest already sparking from within the league and also in Europe too. Though any possibility of returning to Southampton was ended even before Chelsea were put up for sale due to a souring relationship with Saints.

Chelsea have a souring relationship with us or Broja himself?

I read it as Broja himself, which is also what I have heard.

Yeah, and you could see that too in his performances. Hence why I’m not all that upset with him not coming here (and one of the many reasons I never thought he would).

Would be very interested to know why. I know most will automatically lay the blame on Broja, but he is hardly the only player in recent years to seemingly have issues with Ralph. In fact the list is getting rather long.

Oh it may well be Ralph in this instance. Who knows? But Ralph is still here, so the chances of Broja jumping across were never terribly high.
