Agree with this, depends how deluded his parents are and what they advise, like you say the smart decision is to stay put, but a very hard decision to make, I remember in the mid 80’s I got offered a trial and YTS at Newcastle but turned it down as I wanted Sunderland, never happened and joined the Army instead
This depends on how much a mag he is in the beginning, hes been here for a while so surely not a mag that hates sunderland....until he did an interview for them to appease footballs most brain dead supporters. Also we have now quickly turned into one of the clubs most likely to develop young players & give them a chance, backed by one of the best training facilities in europe. Does the kid want the chance to develop quickly & have a good chance or be a mag
I predict he moves then disappears from football in a couple of years. As for the YTS, I accepted mine at Carlisle (32 years ago) broke my leg in a fight (literally stupid children fight!) and, as I then needed 5 operations, that was my footy career gone bye bye!!
This lad looks the real deal, unreal on the ball with incredible vision - plus loves a wonder goal. We have to make every effort to keep him at the club, the best way to do that is by having a clear pathway to the 1st team. We have that in place now, he has been playing in our u18s n has played in the u23s during preseason. Im hopefully he will stay as theres some great prospects at that age group n hes the stand out.
Obviously we need to fight to keep him and show him a plan to the first team. My point is more it could be a losing battle, as eventually he will be able to leave for a nominal fee anyway. If the Mags or Everton want to offer us a couple of million with a sell on percentage etc , and the lad makes clear he wants to go, then it’s preferable to let him go now than wait until he’s 17 and lose him for £350k Id like to start seeing 16 / 17 year olds on our first team bench tho mind. Don’t just tell them there’s a pathway. Show them. Make it real. The option id like to see us taking, if we really see his potential, is offering him a 3 year professional deal NOW, that doesn’t kick in until he’s 17 but is confirmed in writing.
Got to give Speakman a pat on the back for his recruitment strategy. IMO, he has received some undeserved criticism from one or two of our fans. Well done Christian
How long has he been with us? Our Academy has a lot of Newcastle 'fans' in it and they won't all be hankering for a move back up there. Kids from sensible families will discount any sort of blind loyalties and instead weigh up what's best for their career. For Rigg it may be that he thinks that is a move to Newcastle or another Prem team, equally there's every chance that he may look at our Academy, think he's settled here and that there's a very good pathway to first team football pretty soon and think he's best off stopping on. He can then get his dream move up the road once he's fully fledged. It's a longwinded way of saying I respectively disagree that we should just throw in the towel and flog him just because he's a Mag.
Signings going great. if we sign Iverson and Broadband and get Parrot on loan that would complete a fantastic transfer window and the thing is, it’s looking like it may well happen.
Thinking about our forward options, we could do with another player above the level of Parrott or Broadhead. Defences are going to be a lot tougher than we are used to. Maybe we can get a PL loan of the quality of Abraham when he went to Villa?
It is a few years since I had to know the rules but I dont think you can make the offer you suggest yet. If I remember correctly you can do it after the 1st Jan in their u16 football year. The contract will be effective when they then turn 17. I am assuming of course his u16 football year starts in August, so not until Jan 23. Might explain why the interest now of course from other clubs...
That would be someone like parrot, he is a class player. Having stewart parrot broadhead roberts Pritchard clarke embleton and dajaku is good quality
I wonder if we will hear more about Parrott today or tomorrow, be great if we get another in this week, give them plenty of time before Cov at home
If we’re flog the mag to the mags coz he’s a mag, what kinda message does that send out. Our academy would be doing the development work for the mags, and they could just sit back and reap the benefits. If that’s the case, we should be vetting the kids and definitely not develop any mags, for them to snatch away for feck all. Feck em I say, tell the lad he’s going nowhere just yet - he’s our player at the moment. What £1m nowadays, feck all!!! Just tell the scummy Bastads to feck right AFF. FTM Bart
On the bench today for Spurs - they then fly back and get back to England Sunday morning (thanks to the time difference). So assume he'll rest up then come up for Monday/Tuesday?
