Yeah 100% agree on recruitment, only really Defoe and alves that didn’t work out from memory, I’d rather we took our time to get the right lads in than just plugged gaps with whatever is available
When you start comparing it to some of the signings in the Donald era, especially towards the end, the difference is night and day. No more Remi Mattthews, Danny Grahams, Joel Lynchs or Kyle Laffertys
Now a professional warm-up keeper for Palace. Never getting anywhere near the team, but will train Mon-Fri and probably get paid megabucks. Same with Jason Steele
Don’t really blame them treble the salary with little to no pressure, no brainer really, he seemed to drop a clanger everytime he played, the Shrewsbury game is the worst I’ve seen from a keeper
Agreed. Think Johnson(?) brought him in from the cold for that game, he dropped 2 clangers and Burge was back in goal for the next game, saving 2 penalties. That season was a ****ing mess
Just checked in on my eldery neighbour to see if she was ok and needed anything from the supermarket. She said she did, so I gave her my list, pointless us both going.
Doyle isn't ready for the championship. Our forward players would tear him a new one. Coventry are welcome to that one.
We'll see how it pans out for him but at the start of last season he was our best defender and I bet there's a lot worse in the Championship. He faltered I know but I think that was largely a confidence thing - not surprising at his age when you suffer a couple of ridiculous scale defeats. Fresh start for him now and he will draw on last year as good experience. I'd wish him luck if he wasn't in a rival team .
I like Doyle, think he will go on to have a very very good career. Stepping up a league will suit him I think championship is a lot less physical, teams allow you to play football I think he will shine again. I would have had him back given the option.
Burge was below average in a lot of aspects of being a goalkeeper, but he was very good at saving penalties I have to say.
It's interesting that clubs apparently do actually sign people just to play in training games. A mate of mine (a smoggy) has a relation who was offered a place with us last season, but he was told he would only be used to give the first team defenders a good work out in practice, there'd be no chance of him playing a real match for us. He went to a League two side instead, where he would play.
Coventry were decent last season, so will be better this year with some decent signings. Wierd mob though. In a ground, out of a ground, back in it again sort of, "building a bew one" -my arse they are- and spending money. Duty bound to dislike them anyway, even after forty odd years.
