I voted Tory last GE ( first time ever ) to get Brexit done. One of the main reasons I wanted out of EU was for us to take control of our borders. If that meant some legals weren't allowed in so be it. And I'm sure many others felt same as me. Pardon for intruding on your little spat.
I think his French nationality will count against him tbh. Braverman would be my choice but tbh, none of them look particularly trustworthy. Ironically I've no idea who was pro or anti Brexit but, with the demise of Boris, I doubt anyone cares anymore. In fact I think Brexit will be virtually ignored as the benefits seem scarce.
Just seen on the news, North East England 38% child poverty, highest poverty levels in Britain ... ... it's OK though, the levelling up is due to start anytime now.
I think I probably agree with you on both fronts for a change though even Tugendhat I’d part of the ‘how low can you go’ tax massive. If they reduce taxes they make people who pay more of them wealthier and those who pay very little ie the poor very little when the poor are on their arse. Sunak is most honest about this but he’s doesn’t pay any of his ****ing own.
Irritates the **** out of me this levelling up bullshit. As if people in the north expected Boris ****ing Johnson or his toff mates to give the North any thought or respect.
It was just a carrot dangled in front of people who I never believed would take the bait ... ... Boris needed to do absolutely nothing, just come up with another idiotic slogan ffs How daft does the NE look now man. 'Get Brexit done ... levelling up ... support the NHS.' All just absolute shyte.
Don't see any of them suggesting raising the tax free alowance to say 15k and increasing the highest rate for over 150k from 45 to say 50%.
You just have to look at HS train. HS1 (london to Birmingham) it's fantastic, its investment , it brings jobs, it brings wealth and opportunity. Hs2 (manchester Leeds etc) - support the argument to do HS1 and you will get HS2. HS3 ( the proper north) yeah yeah , but probably not in the lifetime of most of you alive today. So HS1 goes ahead regardless, Hs2 , part of the plans now abandoned . Hs 3 never mentioned. There was a good argument that if HS rail was so good for jobs etc, then it should have been done in reverse, north to south, start in north where the jobs are needed.
As Arnie loves to say... "I'll be back" (a good three word idiotic slogan eh @Smug in Boots)... https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/...ocial&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1657608168-1
The Tories handing out increases in benefits during the pandemic and helping small businesses stay afloat during the pandemic must have never happened
If that’s how you see it fair play, I certainly don’t, I still have my dads ashes for one example not to mention the creation of more billionaires
Mary Kelly Foy MP about 2 months ago ***IMPORTANT*** As an MP, engaging with journalists is part of my job and theirs. But the way my staff and their families have been targeted is unethical and borders on harassment. A Daily Mail journalist doorstepped the 14-year-old child of one of the members of my staff. The reporter asked for information about their parents, without an adult present, and only revealed their identity afterwards. This behaviour is despicable and a clear breach of journalistic ethics. I have written to the editor of the Daily Mail and the editors of other outlets demanding they cease hounding my staff and their families.
Hm. Remember, no apology or mitigation is acceptable when it comes to MP behaviour any more. https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/20104367.durham-mp-apologises-berating-richard-holden/
