On Saturday, before the betting was out, I had a good look at the Newton Abbot bumper and despite it being by Telescope the pedigree I was drawn to was that of SHROPSHIRE 80/1. The dam won her bumper and her half brother has also won his bumper which is extremely positive. The big drawback is the yard who are not a force in this sphere. Despite that when I saw 100/1 on 365 last evening I had to have a dabble. I was actually very surprised that they were offering 95/1 for 4 places so that was what I took. Still 80/1 and from this yard that could be realistic but it will be very interesting to see what she looks like in the flesh. In the Windsor opener I rather like HECTIC from the Hannon yard who is a Highclere horse. Kicking myself for not taking the price last night but my view was rather skewed by the overwhelming support for another newcomer in the form of Alberto for George Baker. I should be a very interesting watch.
L'Air Du Vent. This horse is so well handicapped, and with the yard taking an upturn since the old man went back to milking cows, I think he is a prime horse to wrack up a sequence and today he looks the class horse in the race. Already nibbled in the market, I expect him to go shorter still by the off.
Aw, Nass, old Colin didn't do too badly as a trainer, (Cue Card). I liked the old boy, and also the way he brought his son slowly but surely into the training business. Colin is an OK guy IMHO. However, bet he is now happy and content to return to his, no doubt, first love farming, and, as you remarked, milking cows, although I'd be surprised if he does this chore himself!
The 15:55 at Ffos Las is a very open-looking affair over the extended 7f, but Gun Dog has a sporting chance to do well in this Class-6 Classified Stakes event. The Dandy Man gelding's recent form has improved of late which puts him in with a 'squeak'. David Probert rides for the Tony Carroll yard. 13/2 best price at time of writing, available in four or five places. Again, E/W best option in this tight race.
Selection a disaster today! Maybe I can squeeze in Itsalllaboutluck before the Off. Next one Ffos Las.
Fergal's runner won that bumper in very taking style. Shame Nass never mentioned her - too busy trying to find out who's been waxing their leg hairs ahead of tomorrow's TDF stage
