I’ve defended Gao for those same reasons myself, but while there’s always an unknown element with new owners, it was a tad pessimistic to assume things wouldn’t improve at all.
Reports than Everton are looking at KWP which would be a massive loss in my opinion, Probably our most effective player last 2 seasons. I am pleased the sqaud is being rebuilt as it was overdue. However, I think that we will see many more players going out of the door. Just wondering in Diallo and Djenepo will figure next season. Lots of new signings yet I can see some sales to help balance the books.
Subject to the players we've signed so far being good enough (and I really have no idea), I'd be looking for three more players. A striker (an absolute must). A creative playmaker (we've been desperate for one for years). And a back up full back (to cover for Tino). If that all comes off, it'll be one amazing transfer window. Stephens or Bednarek can go. Redmond and/or Djenepo can go (preferably both; I've accepted that no-one will take on Theo's wage). Smallbone and/or Tella can be loaned out.
I like the fact we are getting players in early. The month of training will help get them up to speed and find an understanding with the others. Previously most our players come so late it takes the first 5-10 games to get them working together.
Hasn’t Theo already gone? I thought someone posted a chitter link with him signing somewhere in MLS? Or was that just a dream? I know he doesn’t play much, but his impact in the dressing room… Sorry.
I’ve not followed his career over recent years but I was a fan when he was at Celtic and hoped back then we’d go for him. No idea what he’s like now?
He has said he wanted to stay at Lyon but they signed Lacazette from Arsenal so may look to cash in on Dembele. He’s great, he scores consistently and has for his whole career and is a quick, skilful striker.
Also means Celtic don’t get anything from the sell on they had with Lyon. Poor buggers. He’s worth significantly more than £10m!
Unless it was done extremely quietly, without anyone catching wind of the interest from us. Ala, ABK.
