I've tried to make my brain do this since I saw the thread last night, but it won't allow me to sacrifice anyone.
"monk has been outstanding and a great captain so far this season" No. He's was outstanding against Stoke and reasonably competent for the other home games. For some reason he can't seem to play away from home. Like the rest of the defence he has been pretty poor. No offence to Monk but we'll start picking up more points away when Caulker returns imo. But I agree, a great servant for us and will almost certainly have a coaching role at some stage I would have thought.
i would'nt like to sacrifice anyone who's helped us, but 3 player's coming in is more appealing, caulker should be back soon and we'll have situ in january who can also help out at the back, another attacking midfielder would help and the boy from chelsea might be that if we can get him.
I'm a bit old fashioned and never like the idea of having loanees unless absolutely necessary. Remember Cardiff? I'd begrudgingly agree that in this day and age one or two is fine, and Caulker and McEachran fit the bill as both are excellent. Only trouble is both their managers have said they will not be sold, and personally I'd much prefer to have our own. That said, it's only our first season and hopefully if we stay up we'll attract players who'd rather come here permanently than just come on loan. I know that loans make perfect sense. I've said myself that it's a win win win, because both clubs benefit and the player gets some valuable game time to prove himself as well. It just doesn't feel right to me. I realise I'm a dinosaur on this and I really will be chuffed to see both these young players in a Swans shirt. Just wish they were truly 'ours'.
Hit the road - I'm glad you wouldn't get rid completely but I'm not putting sentiment before anything. Monk has been here many years and I would hate to see him be thrown out, though that isn't going to happen. Agree with you completely about the loanee's. We were all quick enough to abuse Cardiff when they're team was Loan FC, so I'd hate for us to follow suit.
Jack ash, I dont think brendan would ever go down the same route as cardiff did last year with all the loanees, but caulker is a quality cb and I think he will be like sturridge is this year in will be a regular with spurs at the back, maybe one other loanee would be enough I think (mceacharan), who would take some of the burden off our midfield and as said earlier try and bring in someone, permanent maybe a player that is trying to break through but not at present vela from arsenal (is he still on the scene).
Ok im gonna pick 1 player from each outfield position.... From defence id sacrifice Tate. Excellent servant to the club but not cut out for this level. From midfield its gotta be Orlandi. Then Moore from our attack.
I would say that having one or two loanees is healthy for the club, for one we get a player we couldn't afford to buy, two we are not risking ourselves financially by having over priced players on the books, and three these players could help stay in the league. Can I ask though if we had a chance on Borini in the next transfer window, would we turn it because it's a loan ?
Tate has not had much of a chance to say if he is not cut out at this level, i would bet he could cope as good as anyone else we have got...
We can afford around the £10 - £12 million mark for 4 players in January with ease. it wont make much of a dent on what we will earn this season, you have to speculate to accumulate in this league and Morgan is the man to do it.
Dai there is no way that Morgan will allow us to spend £3m a player come the transfer window, we hardly ever do business that time of year, we will probably get that kid from Chelsea on loan and maybe 1 or 2 other players if there are injuries.
don't be so sure jager, a little bird tells me that Brendan will have a substantial amount of money at his disposal in January, £10 -£12 mill is peanuts in the premiership and if we stay up then it will be money well spent....
The three constants in Premier League football that can be counted on are A..managers will change. What one says when he initially loans a player means bugger all when they get sacked/change jobs B..the best players want to play every week C...It's hard for a young un to break into the big 6 clubs. Well worth blooding McEachran and Caulker because you never know whats around the corner!
Actually we want to remove players from our 25 man roster to allow new players to come in. Best strategy is to discard from the bottom of the deck and add to the top.
Dai I would be stunned if we spend a tenth of that, we are a club who never does business at that time of year, and your informant I believe will be wrong in the fullness of time
Moras, Orlandi and Lita to be sacrificed Monk, Gower to be dropped to bench and the 3 players that we are fictionally buying it would go CB, DCM and back up striker On how much we will spend in January I don't think we will spend anything, apart from on loan signing. We got Situ coming for back up in CB and DCM. We may spend about £2-3 mill maybe if the right player comes along but I don't think Brendan will rush IMO
Can I amend slightly what I said in and earlier post. Monk I would not want to leave the club, only dropping down to the bench.
