If I read about Saints buying any more players, I will get grief from my Toon mate. I constantly rile him by saying the Toon are buying their way up the league. Has Fran found some spare money down the back of the sofa? I just hope that the hope that kills you turns into the hope that actually produces results. Something like that.

I have to admit, I expected that we’d try and change a lot this summer but I’m surprised at how widespread and how fast it’s been so far. Obviously there’s more transfers in or out planned or in process too. We’ll get a forward of some description. Then maybe another CB or 10 or something. I don’t think that’s out of scope

It’s hard to think about expectations for next season as it looks like there will be so much change that who ****ing knows what will happen! I think this overhaul will probably be comparable in scale to Palace last year and they pulled it off. I’d hope it all ends as a big success but I can’t say they’re not giving it a go. It’s going to be weird but it’s not going to be a dull season!

I was going to put a smiley next to my post but thought no, LTL will see it as tongue in cheek. <ok>

I know where we are in the pecking order. Be funny if we signed him though.

Hugely exciting window so far, really liking the direction of travel. Inevitably there will be a few bumps in the road along the way but I think we all expect that.

With the new additions how does this currently leave us looking in terms of squad numbers? I appreciate there is more activity to be done both ins and outs but I imagine that training pitch is filling up pretty quickly this week!

Leeds hopes of landing De Ketelaere fading with Prem rival tipped to gazump all with ‘super salary’ offer

"He is quickly becoming a man in demand this summer with links to three Premier League sides forming.

Indeed, Leeds United, Arsenal and now Southampton have been mooted alongside a swoop. What’s more, the latest from Italy suggests the Saints could soon flex their muscles.

Southampton will be hopeful the player is not entirely against a move to the Premier League after entering the frame. The Saints can table a higher offer than AC as well as a ‘super salary’, states the report.

Whether Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side firm up their interest remains to be seen. AC will certainly be hoping they don’t and their fears over the financial power the English sides possess is documented in the piece.

Should it come down to numbers alone, Milan know they’ll lose out. However, what they’re reportedly banking on is the prestige of joining a club like AC Milan. That, and the fact they have Champions League football to offer."

Since when can we flex bigger than other PL clubs? Not gonna happen is it. Only thing we have as a selling point is a well trodden pathway to title and champions league challenging PL teams. Though Leeds have recently sold to Man City so still not sure we're any more of an attractive proposition.

We have a USP for developing players, but you break the salary structure at your peril

I'm guessing the club still thinks there is a possibility of selling him and recouping some of what we paid for him. Better that than just let him go for free next summer.

Not the worst back up option, but certainly hope he's two or three places down the pecking order come Spurs away next month.

He’s probably one of our two best in that position at the moment along with Armstrong (a bit like being the tallest hobbit, admittedly) We will want him in the squad next season and makes sense to try and protect his value to sell if the opportunity arises in future.

Which is why we were so bad going forward last season. Personally I'd say Stuie and Redmond are better than Elyou. But the latter only just, and fully respect anyone who sees it differently.

I'd say we need Aribo plus one more before the season gets underway though.

Armstrong is clearly number 1 but with concerns over his fitness I don’t know how much he’ll be able to play. Part of the problem is that apart from him they are all much of a muchness. Aribo, Mo El, Armstrong and Redmond is a an “okay” selection group at 10 for the season ahead but I think we’d all like another player to come in and really elevate that role. Likely expensive though. Any extras in that position may well depend on who can be sold or moved on during this window.
