We’ve been talking to France for decades surely, even been paying them to stop the illegal immigration ffs, nowt seems to work
This is my gripe with those who'd have me hang my head in shame for the black slave trade. At that time my forefathers were risking their lives down deep shaft mines for a pittance and living in pithouses without bathrooms or heating .... ... WTF do I have to apologise about ffs.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-61997353.amp Brexit factor at play The obvious question posed to Mr Bailey was about a Brexit factor here. Economists predicted that Brexit would make the trade off between inflation and growth more difficult, both because of trade barriers and labour shortages. If forecasts of UK underperformance turn out to be true, then this would be consistent with a Brexit factor at play, making inflation more stubborn than elsewhere, and perhaps requiring interest rates to be hiked higher. A smaller pool of workers should mean the UK labour market is now less flexible. The British Chambers of Commerce yesterday implored the government to review urgently its shortage occupation list, as hotels and restaurants turned away clients amid staff shortages.
I know know what you mean marra, but in my opinion we need Brian Clough talk not Bob in this case (the top two managers of all time BTW)
"The fact that the media can report this and not be beheaded shows what a great country we live in so everyone should shut up and accept the corrupt, immoral and criminal acts from our elected politicians"... or some such nonsense.
Adding to the cost of a bad Brexit deal is this https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...costs-patel-b2113807.html#l53vk0zwv87652l8vqe Apparently they won’t tell us the cost in case the cost they’ve agreed between the two countries makes the countries fall out ? Bizarre excuse for a lack of transparency
As far as I know, the people coming over on the boats to Dover are not illegal immigrants, because they claim assylum when they land. People coming over in the back of wagons and smuggled through customs are illegals, assuming they don't cook or freeze to death on the way.
Anyone who claims asylum is an asylum seeker however they got here. Refugees when granted it based on fleeing war or persecution. Illegals are the ones who don’t register or claim anything. Refugees have a right to protection. Legally. The government language is that illegal immigrants are anyone they haven’t permitted to come before they come but it’s not technically correct. It’s just to cause fear and outrage and gain some brownie points with the discriminators and xenophobic. Trafficking is the thing that is illegal and rightly they should be arrested and charged because people die and are abused, but many are business people with add ons. Not as popular in the Sun and Mail to target business owners as opposed to vulnerable black and brown people.
Your solutions assume goodwill on all sides, and that everyone involved is ultimately nice. There isn't and they aren't. What's plan B? I'm the furthest you can get from intolerance. I do, however, live in the real world.
1799 UK - Scottish slaves It took a further Act, the Colliers (Scotland) Act 1799 (c.56), to liberate the remaining mine workers from the conditions created by the 1606 Act The 1775 Act noted that the Scottish coal workers existed in "a state of slavery or bondage" and sought to address this. 1787 England - Black slaves " Other anti-slavery activists such as Hannah More and Granville Sharp were persuaded to join Wilberforce, which soon led to the foundation of the Anti-Slavery Society. Key figures within the group included James Eliot, Zachary Macaulay and Henry Thornton who were referred to by many as the Saints and later, the Clapham Sect of which Wilberforce became the accepted leader. On 13th March 1787 during a dinner involving several important figures amongst the Clapham Sect community, Wilberforce agreed to bring the issue to parliament.
Miners lived in houses owned by the colliery owners, their rent was deducted from their "wage", they were paid in tokens that could only be spent in shops owned by the colliery owners. They were de facto "slaves". And none of these miners had black "slaves". What do we think would happen if the descendants of these white "slaves" decided to pull down Lord Londonderry's statue in Durham Market Place ?
Personally I think it is a disgrace that this siht had a statue in Durham. He was kicked out of Wellingtons army cos he was useless and a danger to his men. He paid his miners a pittance and put them in chains for striking and threw their families out of their houses. He tried to kill Sunderland off as a port for charging too much for exporting his coal. He was a total arsehole and the idea of him having a statue for being brave in a war is a joke and a lie. There is a very good argument for not having his statue in the market square... at the back if some public toilet block perhaps?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-62023278 It makes perfect sense. Medical support is the obvious answer to getting drunk and sexually assaulting 2 people. It's not even specific on the "medical support". Is he saying he's an alcoholic or trying to blame mental health for his behaviour? It's absolutely disgusting that this has gone from "no further action is needed because he said sorry" to "he's actually victim and needs help" within 48 hours.
I fear we'll have to wait for results of an inordinately long enquiry for the answers to your questions mate. Then when the results finally appear we will be told it is "time to move on" and instead concentrate on Bonko inventing the Covid vaccine and what a roaring success Brexit has been.
"What the public really want is for us to move on and get on with the job of levelling up this country." We've been waiting 3 years already but they've been too busy embroiled in sleaze, lies, parties and nepotism to actually "get on" with it.
Ha’way marra let’s start talking down to earth working class language, everybody who comes over the channel in dinghies are ILLEGAL immigrants FFS
Levelling Up? Inflation sky rocketing and unions cast as the villains for having the temerity to ask for commensurate pay rises
