Aye he was sound as ****. Anton lived in the building as well he was a top lad. Used to help folk with their bags and that. Lad was lonely as ****. Dunno if it was his missus and son or whatever but every few weeks there was a lass and a kid there and he always had a better game. We sometimes forget they are human. Money ain’t everything. Folk say ‘what you gotta worry about you’re a millionaire footballer’, different levels of course but some of my best memories were when I’ve been skint and some of my toughest times have been since I’ve been comfortable. He was alright Anton.
Was having a good day till I read that......now that has kicked me off.....loved that lad.....the mother of all screw ups.
Why, he wasn’t very good but he’s not a tosser like Rodwell, Stubbs……. I don’t dislike players for lack of ability mate, it’s the manager to blame if they get too many games.
I think the original post was about Burge, albeit the linked story was about O'Brien Got no issue with Burge - he was limited but he gave his all O'Brien was useless - never forget watching him walk around the pitch giving zero ****s in the Pizza Cup game v Oldham. We had a team of kids out that night and as a senior pro he should he been taking the lead, not hiding like a coward.
There's something about this Ballard deal that stinks. It defies geography, something that's held us back in the past. He's a young international, properly coached from boyhood and was wanted by other clubs. And he's been given a four year contract at the age of twenty two ... ... surely we only give those contracts to ageing mercenaries who no-one else wants. There's something rotten at this club and we should demand to know what's going on. Protest anyone?
We seem to have people in charge who know what they're doing. It's upsetting...I'm just not used to it!
i agree...whats wrong with giving a 'name' now 32 a 3 year deal as he had a lot of potential at 26...but just lost his way a little & will now be back on track. seriously if we continue with a logically approach to recruitment we are in big danager of this club getting somewhere!!
Listened to the Ballard interview and him saying Embo was one of the reasons he came here. This is the same Embo who some on here wanted replacing with Morrison ffs. Yea why not go out and buy a no name no mark player whose achieved duck all and get rid of or shove down the pecking order one of our own academy products who has just helped us win the play-off final. Embo on his day is class, bet no one in Wembley had any idea what he was going to do with the ball when he picked it up on the half way line, especially their keeper Time some fans stopped hankering after so called better players according to some App or other, we've been down that road and ended up in League1 for four seasons, think our club are doing pretty well this window, long may that continue.
There's a little doubt in my head about how some fans are going to adapt to our new approach. Football players have become a very disposable item in recent years. Fans will happily write a player off after a couple of games, demand new players every transfer window and always want massive improvements. I think we have to learn how to be patient. Signing young players and bringing players through the academy means that we can't write them off after a handful of games. Players can continue to develop and improve. We've signed Ballard for 4 years and are looking to try and get Clarke permanently. These aren't players that we improve upon next season because "they're midtable Championship players" and we're striving for the Premier League. They're players that we nurture and support through their dips in form who are here for the long term. I think this goes for players already at the club as well. Matete and Dajaku are probably the best 2 examples I can think of. I think we'd all acknowledge that they showed glimpses last season without being consistently fantastic. But we can't sign so many players that these 2 are 4th or 5th choice in their position. We have to leave that gap in the squad for this type of player to fill. It's going to be tough to adapt but we need to embrace it. At this moment in time, this club is pulling together in the same direction and that kind of morale and team spirit should not be underestimated. Whenever Sunderland has done well in my lifetime, we've always been greater than the sum of our parts and that's the best way I can describe us under Alex Neil right now. I want the core of this squad to still be here 3 years from now.
Man City's pipeline of centre backs is frankly ridiculous when you consider Burnley are signing TWO of their youngsters to play there and neither of them are Callum Doyle
Would like to see Callum back in league one at a footballing side, not many to choose from there like
