Hypotheticals have to be plausible or else it's just ****ing dumb. Hypothetically we could sign someone from League 2 who scores 25 goals next season for us so why are we worrying about selling KLP? I mean, it could happen, has happened, so why worry?
It was plausible. So it's not plausible to sign 2 strikers, a winger, an attacking midfielder, 2 full backs, a holding midfielder and a centre half. With all the players leaving, we need a host more bodies.
If we get the right striker, and a couple more shrewd signings, including KLP's replacement I dont think we would be that much of a surprise to be sniffing near the play off's considering Luton and Millwall last season did it based on fairly low cost but well drilled squads. I'm not expecting it, certainly not demanding it, but would not be blown away in surprise if we had a tidy little season given the signings so far and the type of striker we are in for.
I'm hoping we can finish top half, but turning a 19th placed team into a top 6 team in a single window, no matter who you bring in is a big ask. The more player turnover, the more time to gel, not every signing will be a success whichever market you are shopping in. Suspect it will be a 2 or 3 window project, but Luton and Huddersfield showed anything is possible in this league, as did we ourselves in 2008. Still think you need plan for sustained investment over time to really have a serious tilt at promotion from our current position though.
The signings so far are a keeper on loan, a central defender for free, possibly an attacking midfielder who appears to be injured, possibly Allahyar, but not been announced officially & possibly a defensive midfielder, that hasn’t been announced officially. As for the players we’re linked with, it seems we’re linked with them , then they go elsewhere. We need to be looking at less big names, get less excited by all the twits on Twitter & hope we get things sorted soon. If we finish mid table, with no threat of a relegation battle, it’ll be a decent season. I’d be very shocked if we were near the play offs.
Tan has confirmed Allahyar as our first signing in the humberside interview. Just haven't done an unveiling probably as we already had him last season. If that's not official, what is? The Baxter loan agreement includes a pre-agreed fee. We know he's reluctant to close the door on his Chelsea career so I assume he wants to hold off signing a permanent deal elsewhere for the time being. As for the defender on a free, he's a promotion winner and played a significant role in the forest side last year. He had other suitors and has chosen to come here based on our ambition over the coming seasons. Acun himself has said top half is the expectation but playoffs are the aim. That's fine by me, but all clubs have a list of targets and work through them. Sometimes you get them, sometimes you don't but just getting them around the table as we have indicates that we are making offers worthy of consideration by that calibre of player. There will be others. Theres a whole 2 months left of the window. The time to judge the business is then. Not in the early stages as we are in now.
Nothings ever certain. Keeping KLP wouldn't even be certain as there's always potential for injuries and the like.
