I loved hugh Johns… even if his style was to just repeat the end of the sentence. “He’s scored a goal, a goal” his voice was brilliant. Gerald Sinstadt another.
Just like we had with Phillips! Oh, wait a minute..... More likely we'll get lots of offers over £100m, but we'll sell him for £25m, so he can go to join the club of his choice. Just like KP. Satire, but worryingly possible.
Just wondering how does that work? Can a player refuse to be sold? Or can the club just sell to the highest bidder?
Good question. I'm guessing that, like everything else in professional football, the key negotiating skills would be coercion, blackmail, ridicule, and, without blinking, lies. Seriously, though, a player could indeed refuse to be sold. But that would be the end of his career. His relationship with his club would be in tatters. He would be viewed by the industry as trouble, & avoided at all costs. A player could be quite subtle though, if he could find it in himself. He could accept everything, then insist he wasn't moving unless he was paid £2m a week. After tax. So despite a fine negotiation by the club, it would hit the rocks if personal terms weren't agreed. I'm guessing, though, that the player would look to his agent for advice. Now, on the basis that the agent will not turn down an easy couple of mill for himself, and agents by definition are selfish, mixing basturds, the 'advice' to him would always be to go. Sad, but almost 100% true. There may be an honest agent out there somewhere - we just haven't heard of him.
Raphinha has a contract and can refuse to be sold. Raphinha has been offered over £150k per week and a 4 year contract, so would be stupid turning it down, however he and his agent are still hawking themselves around Barcelona. IfI were a Chelsea fan I would be telling the club to take the offer away. Raphinha can hold out and hope Barca find some money because we can refuse to sell him until we get the money we expect, so it's a two way street the contract but if he refuses to accept Chelsea his value falls like a stone in the final 2 years, so in January £15m could fall off his value and by next summer he would be worth only £25m
So now 65 million minus 15 million equals 25 million. This new mathematics you have discovered is brilliant.
Phillips is not that good and even yourself said england are rubbish. So to get that much for him is good business. No?
I don't think so - can you really say Harrison has been consistent ? Does he strike you as a potential England World Cup squad member ? If not, would that be because of his less-then-stella delivery in crosses ? Sorry, but while I think Harrison is a decent player, he's nothing like a world class winger - if I was offered £25m for him, I'd take it in a heart beat.
I wouldn't say he is wedded per-se...but he prefers a narrower system with no players specializing as playing on the wing.
You're assuming that the club does not have any debts. We do not have £100m in the bank, what source are you using that suggests we do ?
In regards to Raphinha the figure of what he will be worth in January are ridiculous. It’s like banging your head on a wall, it’s World Cup year, 16 games to prove yourself and get selected, play at the World Cup and watch your price inflate. Why we don’t play hard ball with him is pathetic. We tell him sign a contract extension and we’ll put a £65m release clause in rising to £85m if Brazil reach the semi finals. He signs we move on, he refuses and we say okay, we’re going to be accepting offers for you if you see your future elsewhere, if you’ve not accepted terms with a new team before the new season starts then you’re surplus to requirements and you’ll be training with the U23s Other seasons it’s a gamble, this season he wouldn’t dare sit in the reserves and miss a place in that Brazilian starting 11. In January he has 18 months left, we either get two full seasons or full asking price, if he walks for free two years from now so what, the PL is worth £150m a year. Our board need to kick Deco and Barcelona into touch, should be suing Barcelona anyway for falsely describing Firpo as a LB
I think Rodrigo (and Llorente for that matter), need to be sold. I do not see De Ketelaere as a striker or even a no.10 - sure, he can score goals and that's great, but we need creativity on both flanks and sorry, but Harrison doesn't provide that.
If we hang on to Raphinha until January, he will not be worth more, regardless of how good a world cup he has.
You’re missing the point, he signs a new contract and remains, or if he sees his future elsewhere and he joins one of the teams we accept offers from. If he refuses holding out for Barcelona we dump him in the reserves and he kisses goodbye to the WC He is not going to chance a place in that Brazilian team However on the value thing, imagine he finishes leading scorer and Brazil win the World Cup. You honestly believe club teams are going to wait 18 months before making a move hoping to get him for free?
