Yes it is true that the royals are in fact very spoiled prisoners in their own goldfish bowl but their malign actions still hurt people. See Andrew Windsor.

Yes Sarkozy took money for corrupt favours and is a symptom of systemic corruption and Yes a more fitting parallel is any number of tory sweet heart deals including the ferry contract to someone who had no ferries nor knowledge of ferries and a myriad of covid contracts.

We all pay for these corruptions.

"If Putin was a woman, which he obviously isn't, but if he were, I really don't think he would've embarked on a crazy, macho war of invasion and violence in the way that he has.
If you want a perfect example of toxic masculinity, it's what he's doing in Ukraine."

Boris is a perfect example of toxic buffoonery.
And he seems to have forgotten all about a certain M.H. Thatcher.

I just want to ask how boris knows so vehemently that Putin is a man. What did putin do to prove this to boris? (cos lets face it anyone can go topless)

"there should be more women in power" says the man who ousted a woman from power.... classic johnson waffle.

Got to love forgetting you're supposed to be picking your youngest up from school, getting a phone call ten minutes after you should have been there to ask where you are and then getting stuck in traffic on the way to fetch him! Only 40 minutes late in the end :emoticon-0136-giggl

Oh, and they tried to ring his mother first (she's at work, that why I was supposed to fetch him) so I've got a bollocking coming later too <laugh>

Not a chance. He'll rat me out instantly, no prodding required!

Youngest is 100% mummies boy. Eldest two would side with me but not the youngest.

Plus, school tried to ring her so...

10 earthquakes (although half too small to feel) in under 24hrs.

    How's your day going? <laugh>

To think, back at Xmas it had been years since I last felt an earthquake and we've had over 40 since. (None major, and still unlikely we will get a major one here despite our current cluster). Still concerning being less the 5 miles away from the epicenter of so many quakes.

Had several more since posting this. At 19 minor shakes in the last five days now. It's funny, every time the Air Conditioner turns on now I think we're about to get another earthquake now because it sounds like the rumble before the hit.

does that many minor shakes not cause issues over time with houses. cracks in foundations/ basements/whatever?

Very likely, although the only damage that I've heard about is a barn, but I'm sure theres more happening. There's one bridge that's been scheduled to be replaced for years now that the city is concerned that is being damaged and made unsafe but no official report of damage and it's still used.

Power was out for a lot of people yesterday following one of the quakes (luckily for me, not me)... But, yeah, I've been wondering what kind of damage might be accumulating... I'm signing up for earthquake insurance now. Only $50 to $100 more a year, so seems a no-brainer.

Our old house closes tomorrow, will be glad to have that one gone and away from our responsibilities. Suck if that one got damaged the day before it sold.

These earthquakes are new here. Before Xmas you'd have to go back decades before there was an earthquake near the epicenter of the ones we've been having the last six months... Apparently these earthquake clusters can happen anywhere in the world and can last week's or months and no way to predict when they will start or end. Hopefully it will end soon before it does start to cause more damage to people's homes.

There's also a lot of dammed streams in the area. A lot of people live on ten acre or more properties and a lot of them dam their streams to get acre or two ponds for fishing in. I don't know how secure a lot of those private dams are but could cause some localized problems with mini flash floods for anyone downhill from one if the quakes are slowly cracking some of those dams.

Another slight worry for me, especially being on well water, theres an old abandoned Gold Mine less than three miles from me, and they have containment ponds on the property where the old used water from the mine sits. Quite toxic water. It's all regularly tested to make sure none is escaping into the environment or ground water. I wouldn't want quakes to destroy those holding ponds and poison my water supply.

I mean, there's literally gold beneath my feet. Lots of old gold mines in SC. I'm not an expert on gold mining but, I do know it's way more expensive to extract the gold than the gold is worth. They're not gold nuggets or even flakes, I think it's microscopic specs that they used to chemically extract.
