Seems to be copping grief for a 7 game spell at Watford as opposed to 65 international caps and a successful spell at Fenerbache which led to Watford loaning him with a compulsory purchase agreement for a lot more than were paying should they have stayed up.

    191 games in Turkish Super league - 21 goals, 30 assists. 65 international caps - 9 goals.

Seems to have something about him. Has a point to prove.

It's up to Acun and Shota to get the most from him, but I doubt they'd be shelling out on a permanent deal and taking that kind of risk if they weren't convinced.

If he's a shirker he'll soon be found out, but new club, new start, until he gives me a reason not to, I'll back him as I would any signing.

Ben Arfa which was a half season loan when he wanted a move back to France when his Newcastle situation became untenable. He was never going to have a future at the club and was the polar opposite of a Steve Bruce player.

And why the focus on Tufan? We've just signed a promotion winner and are supposedly close to a title winner but no, some on here have to pick out the one potential negative.

Ben Arfa had a point to prove when he arrived at City as well..

Ben Arfa was a full season loan that we cut short because of how **** he was. Don't re-write history.

Why the focus on Tufan? No focus here, you questioned the Ben Arfa comparison, and I suggested - after you dismissed it as not being relevant - that there were examples of players we are planning to sign who have similar criticisms about their work ethic.

Ben arfa certainly did prove a point and got his move back to France. His ability was never in question.

I'm lost at what point you're making here. He didn't prove any point with City and we cut his loan short after he covered less ground in a game than McGregor. The comparison was made because you were wondering why people were upset at Honeyman being 'upgraded' when a 'better' player technically doesn't necessarily translate on the pitch at a Championship club. In the depths of winter when the going gets tough are Tufan and Traore going to get stuck in and care as much as Honeyman did? Maybe they will, and time will tell, but it's funny that you brought up Geovanni, Diame and Hernandez as positive examples of upgrades when all three without fail went missing when the going got tough in relegation seasons.

Point was Ben Arfa never wanted to be here and it showed. The move he wanted weren't prepared to stump the cash Newcastle were asking.

Should we have listened to the Mackem fans on Honeyman?

Should we never make a foreign signing because they could be a Ben Arfa? The vast majority of overseas players haven't ended up that way.

It's a lazy generalisation and comparison based on nothing.

If he's a shirker he'll soon be found out.

I haven't made any of those suggestions. I'm explaining why some may be skeptical of your insistence that Honeyman going is fine because we're getting better players in. Nothing more, nothing less.

You don't think Seri would be a step up from Honeyman? Wright a step up from Eaves?

Seri and Honeyman play entirely different positions.

Not entirely, but I did mean Smallwood. You honestly think they would let Honeyman go if they didn't think they could get better/have better coming in?

They can think what they want and others can think what they want. The proof will be in the pudding.

Absolutely, but likenng someone to Ben Arfa who isn't Ben arfa and they haven't even pulled on the shirt is a tad presumptive don't you think?

Is it any different to likening a player to Hernandez or Diame? All we can do is draw on past experiences and situations to discuss signings.. after all this is a 'discussion' board.

No-one has, I just questioned the negative comparison as opposed to a positive one.

Geovanni wasn't a grafter, was sometimes dropped in winter as he didn't get 'stuck in' when the weather turned but he was loved for his contribution regardless because he provided a bit of telling quality in the right circumstances.

Why not make that comparison? Why liken him to the biggest transfer flop in recent history before he's even kicked a ball?

I think that's presumptive and unfair.

As you rightly point out, it's a discussion board.

That would be problematic given the Turkish transfer window closes a week later than ours.

He could if he invested wisely indeed set him self up for life. But not residential
Property. Go down the commercial property route and stocks. The net return on residential is poor compared to the other two. And, as we might be seeing over the next few years, when residential
Goes down, it stays down for long periods.
