There are about 80,000 members of the RMT union who are on strike. They include ticket inspectors, catering staff and engineers working for train companies. Members also include staff at Network Rail, which manages and operates the UK rail network, and includes signallers. Most train drivers are in ASLEF.
No. As in most jobs the wages reflects the skill set and probably starts from minimum wage upwards. The main people being inconvenienced are the working men and women doing real jobs like nhs etc not those choffered around unaffected.
I am on the outside looking in. If £70,000 iis the high wage earner, what is the lowest earner on? I only ask because we are only informed of the high end earner.
I think many feel that train drivers are overpaid hence the focus being on them. It doesn’t help when train tickets cost so much as well. I don’t really like across the board percentage increases either - it just makes the gap between salaries even bigger. Taking the 7% raise mentioned above, that would equate to a £4900 raise on the £70k job, but only £2100 on a £30k job. That’s more than double - just doesn’t seem fair to me.
Playing devil's advocate, most football fans' are not too upset/angry about footballers being paid £ 600,000.00 per week, especially if they play for their team. Sadly, fairness in life isn't a given. Some get to enjoy fairness +, but most have to rub along. Mrs. Windsor, for instance, receives umpteen millions of £'s in taxpayer handouts, not to mention the tens of millions spent on her grace residence, whenever she tires of the wallpaper patterns, whereas less privileged 96 year old pensioners are stuck with the OAP, with no perks at all. I don't see a glimmer of fairness there.
If anyone thinks the public expression of humour is in danger, just wait until islam takes over. It will be a stoning offence.

Any complaints? please log in to view this image NHS staff protest against the three per cent pay rise in 2021 - Strikes imminent unless something done Any complaints? please log in to view this image RMT staff strike against a negative % pay rise, or a pay cut. Any complaints? Yep, apparently plenty. All the RMT is seeking is a pay rise which reflects the increased cost of living 7%, or in real terms a zero pay rise. Seems reasonable to me. Many RMT staff worked through the pandemic to keep Britain running and the shelves stocked. The same shelves that kept us gong. NHS 20% front line staff worked through the pandemic , the rest, worked part time from home, or, like the majority of Doctors and Consultants, didn't work at all, yet they were applauded on Thursdays. No Barristers worked through the pandemic but that's OK, they're not blue collar so don't count. While Rail workers face pay cuts, are shareholders of Rail companies capping their dividends, nope. So they want more, expect more and who do they expect to pay them, the blue collar worker that kept the goods flowing for 2 years while the majority of Britain stayed at home and binge watched box sets, or became really good at Red Dead Redemption 2 (other games existing) Any complaints? nope I doubt any train driver in the UK is paid anywhere near £70k, closer to half that I suspect. Here in Germany the vast majority of Germans think its good, a very German thing, that most employed people, regardless of occupation chosen or forced, are adequately compensated for the work they do Train drivers here are paid between £50-65k depending on experience. Carriage cleaners here are paid £30-£40k equivalent, and no one cares how much they earn, All Germans care about is they paid enough so that bills can be paid without concern, luxuries can be bought to improve our standard of living, money can be saved and our futures are secure. Pension funds are holier than the Holy Grail here. No Hedge fund can go near them, to raid them for profit, they're Sacrosanct. As aside, guess how the Farage family made their fortune? Raiding your pension funds, won't find anything about that on Nigel's Wiki page. I wish it was better back home, living away makes me see just how bad it is. I know you wont like this but I wish it was more like Germany because here we don't have Fekkin train drivers, we just have train drivers.
