Well it all starts when a manager starts eyeing a player and gets the club to keep tabs on him whilst they ready a bid. Often the player's agent with encourage him to slam in a transfer request whilst the selling club will also be eyeing other schemers to replace said player should he demand a move
With such a big turnover in players and planning ahead for another promotion in next couple of years where do we stand on the homegrown player front? Gooch, Embleton, Dan Neil and Patterson fit well but I think it’s 8 players needed in a PL squad with 3 years with the club before they turn 21. Dajaku, Diamond, and Ellis Taylor might make it to PL standard but not sure if we are bursting with possible options.
Last season aside, Scottish clubs usually get about 2 European games before they are knocked out by Minnow FC of Hungary
If you are not aware, all SAFC have to do is want a player and he is ours! If we do not sign a player it is cause we have no ambition, can't identify a player etc... but never are we not in for a player cause he isn't what we want, outnof our budget, playing at a higher level etc... At least this is the way Monty see us and players! There were several players he slagged the club off for not signing last season and also for selling Wyke, despite being informed several times we didn't sell him.
Every "raid" needs a plan mate and part of that plan is to let the media know that we plan to raid so that the opposition can prepare to be raided. Then we fool them by "swooping" instead. Classic misdirection.
Pretty sure the rule is homegrown in ENGLISH football for the EPL. Only need 4 home grown at Sunderland for UEFA competition.
Still unsure on him, the fact that he could be great excites me but been burned so many times in the past
Aye, I’m not convinced about him at all tbh and worry that he could be a negative influence on what is clearly a close-knit group. Can’t see AN taking any **** from anyone but the lad has messed people about at some big clubs. Got to trust the club on this one and he will get my backing but am nervous about it if he does sign.
Suspect it’ll all hot up this week. Players formally become free agents at the end of Thursday and the PL clubs will be back in training which might unclog the market. Likes of Broadhead and Clarke won’t have been back at their clubs until today.
If we were going to turn our nose up at players with a reputation for bad mental application then we wouldn't have signed Pritchard. I trust Alex Neil to only approve the signings of players he wants to work with. Morrison feels like the kind of player who could thrive playing for a big crowd and being loved. He could easily be a massive flop here but equally likely to be adored by us, IMO.
I think we could well see a few calculated risks again this season, could argue evans falls into a similar category given his injury record, potential and those that have ability but lost their way looks to be the avenue we’re going down, take this over the last pay day brigade of the past any day
I’d happily back the recruitment team on this one to be fair, our incomings since last summer have largely been successful and a fair few Derby fans on their forums would have preferred Morrison to stay. Mind you, Derby only have about 3 players contracted to next season…
I don't think we have another midfielder that can do the job that Evans does, so I hope that we get a player, ideally better than Evans, for this position.
