Orta put 3 candidates forward for each position, and Bielsa chose. The proof in the pudding will be how good the Summer signings are. What w know so far is that Marc Roca and Darko Gyabi are both Orta's signings
But Ell if Orta put, you , me or Firpo forward as the option to fulfill the left back roll, I can understand why Bielsa didn't choose you. Of course MB made the mistake in selecting Firpo over myself, although if I had been first choice, I would have turned the offer down, with my knees I wouldn't want to play murder ball
Errr ok, but I never mentioned anything about how good KP could have been pre or post Bielsa. I think you will find that was other posters, hence my confusion
Kalvin would still be attempting to effect the game at both ends of the pitch, which is exactly what we saw under Jesse in what we now know were the last couple of games he'll ever play for us. Guardiola, like Bielsa, will stop that stupidity straight away and tell him to sit deep, get on the ball and use his range of passing to make the pitch bigger. For the record, Phillips is probably just a smidge or two above being an average box to box midfielder and if you want someone to play that role then you'd be far better with a Connor Gallagher or Jude Bellingham for example. Finally, a massive well done to Kalvin. What a fantastic achievement for a young lad who came through the academy and has now absolutely smashed to smithereens our record for a transfer fee received
Less 5 million for a player not worth that. Just so leeds can help balance the books of the buying club. Stranger than fiction or is it just that.
Radz is no fool mate when it comes to the financials and at the end of the day he's the one who will have signed it off. Whatever the deal actually entailed we'll likely never fully know but as our relationship with City is above cordial I've no concerns personally.
You know that Marsch hasn't had any choice? Have these players been forced on Marsch? If so that won't end well. We're back to Cellino if that's the case.
There's no denying that last season was an absolute struggle, but the mitigating circumstances at least partially explain why it was so difficult and we'd be incredibly unlucky to suffer the same amount of injuries etc again but of course you never know. From what I've read across many social media platforms it would seem that the majority wanted a drastic rebuild this summer and we're definitely reshaping the squad, which of course comes with an element of the unknown. It's that unknown, allied with a new manager/coach which is unsettling us all to some extent and now we just have to wait to see if a new look team has what it takes to finish mid table or higher. Exciting times if you're glass half full kinda person.
The least that last season gave us was being bored, for this season I would a little less stress though and more enjoyment, if possible.
Pep will tell him to sit on that bench and keep it warm for when rodri needs a breather. it’s not really a case of marsch not recognising Phillips skill set is it… it’s more him sticking to his preferred formation with a double pivot… which I agree doesn’t get the best out of Phillips. Bit like bielsa playing 3 at the back when the opponents play 2 strikers... it Never seemed to suit anyone but he stuck to his principles of how the game should be played… and we got some results with it.
Looking at the Villa game in Brisbane but I have to convince somebody that spending her birthday watching a Leeds game is really the best thing to do.
I reckon Marsch knows his reputation sinks or swims over the close season. He will want players that suits his tactics. There may even be one or two who we think are crazy buys, but the whole is more important than the individual, and if crazy makes the system flow it does make sense. we will have to see
Morning all. Interesting reading. My fear is that the biggest thing we'll miss about MB is his coaching. Making players better than they probably should be. I don't know JM track record on coaching, does he coach what he has into his way of playing or does he also improve players? At least he's going in to this season having experienced how tough this league is but, as has been said, it's worrying that we're signing so many players with no PL experience. I know he stayed for the extra year to help drag us out of the Championship but Philips has lost a lot of brownie points with me for forcing us to take a lower offer for him. What if PSG were offering £70m? I hope Rodri has a great season, Kalvin warms the bench and gets dropped by England because someone else shines in his position. I think it's going to be a very tough year again.
