Gave Glastonbury a miss this year as did presenter Lauren Laverne who mother sadly passed away on Friday RIP. I also attended the same Sunderland Empire performance in 1963 as her mother had done and I could not resist the trip down memory lane. The performance overall encapsulated the feeling of loss, but it will never dull the memory. Yeah Yeah Yeah.
I usually avoid artists who appear to appear from nowhere on the back of massive hype ... ... especially if they don't seem to be instrumentally talented. (No idea if she is or not.) But at some point I'll play her set with an open mind, no harm in trying.
I certainly get that an McCartney voice is not the best, if l am being honest the line up to this years Glastonbury is poor compared with other years. Covid has had an effect on that as the music industry made plans to be up and running when lockdown came alone, unlike Glastonbury. Saw Phill Collins ether side of Covid, wonderful voice but cannot get out of his chair without help, wonder if he would swap with McCartney? This year's festival season has taken off and is massive and artists can be difficult to find to complete line ups, pubs here have caught up and wanting bands. Personally, l love live music, as a 13 year old l saw a band called Dave and the strangers in a church hall, l loved it then and l'm still mad for it now. Rod Stewart is more the wife cup of tea than mine, but would see him tomorrow if he was touring.
That's all fair enough mate and I'd agree with most of it. It's not McCartney's voice that makes him uncomfortable to watch, it's how he looks when he's singing 'rock' numbers and trying to look aggressive. That kind of thing. Ballad singers can go on longer imo but rock music needs an attitude imo.
Sounds was bad for me via my Sky box so I turned it off and watched via Freeview, good sound and better picture.
I saw Macca live just before Covid, he was brilliant, did 3 hours, Ringo and Ron Wood joined him for Get Back. I’ve always been a Stones fan more than The Beatles, saw them 4 years ago , they were superb, Jagger managed to out firsts me for 2•5 hours. Saw Noel 3 years ago as support to U2 he was a bit boring and weak, not the same without Liam.
I think I'd be keeping Lily Allen as far away from any cause I was involved with as possible. She's usually the death knell.
Quite agree about rock, l like music with attitude, punk and rock for instance, take Fish from early Marillion, but also personality play a part say Tom Jones who is 80ish as well
@Snaggey said sound was poor early on and McCartney's voice was better as the set went on. I am recording today and will watch later tonight when l get back so hope the sound is okay.
Paul McCartney, the best singer/songwriter that there's ever been, is my musical hero, and I'm so jealous . . . . I'd love him to knock on my door and stay for tea I wonder how many 80 year olds could do what he did last night . . . . his voice is obviously not what it used to be, but he was still very good (despite what heathens like Smug say) and I'd love to meet him. Alas, I never will, but he's still my hero
I think they come from a Marlon Brando film The Wild One in which the names of the biker gangs are BRMC and The Beetles.
Good for him. He doesn't give a **** anymore. He said so. Released from record label so going to enjoy himself. Said at the gig. Fair play I say.
Think it's universally accepted from decent people that this cause is needed mind. Joke of a decision from the supreme court.
For all he’s a Mag I’m a massive Sam Fender fan, his set was absolutely brilliant. Seen him live a few times and he always is.
He's a genuine genius. He will be remembered in the same vein as Bach, Beethoven, Picasso, Michaelangelo etc etc.
