S.A.F.C. - the future

There are mate, for sure. I think with Paul Reid it is the fact he has gone back to the level which makes me think he may have been out of his depth, or maybe too much too soon. What happens a lot is people get a chance because of who they know and it can become a bit of a merry go round. Be nice to see some new coaches from the semi-pro game get a chance as I think we tend to be quite innovative with our sessions, and that might be beneficial for variety in the pro game.

Too true, agree with all of that. The Step 4 manager getting a FL job I mentioned earlier is a former pro who has been up and down a couple of times, so that proves what you say about the merry go round. But I know ex-pros at Step 4 who will defer to coaches/managers who haven't played higher than semi-pro. So the recognition of talent/ability is there within the game but I think pro clubs are reluctant to make that leap of faith because of the perception of fans. Look at the reaction to Dave Hockaday being appointed Leeds manager- and he'd had a good pro career as a player.

 

I’d say Moyes and Coleman were sensible appointments who then found out the club was an absolute joke with an absent chairman who provided no commitment or resources and substandard players as a result.

It was a **** show but its a **** show thats behind us now. I prefer not to look over my shoulder and remember it, Parkinson setting up for a draw at home to MK Dons or the shambles down Bristol Rovers or the damp squib at Gillingham. We have proper owners now, a proper manager and we're out that bastard of a league. I'm looking forward to what is ahead.

 

This, one gone, the other to be phased out, we have so much to be positive about time to forget about those two clowns, everyone has their opinion on them neither side will change that opinion, wasting energy trying imo, friendlies round the corner let’s look forward not back

When you go into a career the point is you progress, he has regressed. This bloke was best friends with Hill and wasn’t qualified for the job. I am not knocking non league football either, but it’s fair to say he is now probably at his level and should have been nowhere near the Sunderland academy job

 

Absolutely - every time I see the names Greenwood or Hugill talked about as being on the cusp of Leeds or man Utd 1st team it boils my piss that he sold of the family silver to pay the wages. Absolute charlatan

Eh? Moyes wasted millions on absolute clowns, he was given resources.

 

But at the time everyone was happy with his appointment. The fact it didn't work out doesn't make him a bad choice at the time. People were talking about him being a huge upgrade from Allardyce and let's be fair, he's doing well at West Ham

 

Agreed. I really don’t like Moyes and hate how he gave up but the club was a mess and he’s now showing he’s a good manager. I loved the job he did at Everton and was happy to see him get our job at the time…

 

He maybe has found his level, that's true. But to say that he should have been nowhere near the Sunderland academy job is unfair. If he'd done well elsewhere, then why shouldn't he be given a crack higher up? What I've found is that football is a small world and very often, people get jobs based on the links they have with other people. I find this blame culture very strange. People are given one go and if they aren't an instant success, they're immediately dismissed as ****. That's not realistic- it never takes into account the various circumstances that people are working under. Moyes was mentioned earlier- we all dismissed him as **** (as presumably did the Real Sociedad fans) but his reputation among his peers never diminished and he's now doing a really good job at West Ham.

 

Be serious, please. He was just another muppet appointed by the Oxford scumbags. Cheap.

 

I'm being deadly serious. I find this haste to criticise and rubbish other people without considering the full set of circumstances quite pathetic.

 

Because he hadn’t achieved anywhere near enough to be considered. That was a monumental step up from Eastleigh, where He wasn’t even an academy manager, his luck was he was best friends with Stewart Donald and Richard Hill
Can you tell me where he has “done well elsewhere” to enjoy a job further up?. I’m not sure what you mean about blame culture, he was an utter ****ing failure here, it’s there for all to see. No one came clamouring to sign him up when he left and now he is DoF at Bashley FC. I have no issues with anyone lower down the leagues, but it was a quantum leap from a non league recruitment job to a Manager of a Cat 1 academy. I’m not sure what Moyes has to do with my answers either

 

But you see, we aren’t criticising him, we are criticising the blokes who appointed him, those who thought that a recruitment bloke at Eastleigh could run our academy. My post that you responded to was about them appointing him and look where he is now. You’ve already agreed that he may have found his level.

 

I've seen it said that both Donald and Methven are independently wealthy people.

If that's the case, and this was their club, why was the academy decimated to pay wages ...

... it's the clearest indication that 'the future', for them, was only the next season when they could sell the remnants of the club from the Championship.

Their one and only motive in 'saving the club' was financial.
