I couldn't even afford 15%. Even the 9% would probably mean no holidays etc if i stayed in.

 

Did you get your leaving date / period of notice sorted, to what you wanted?

 

I listened to a radio thing many years ago (maybe early 90’s) and the presenter asked this woman what pension she thought she needed to survive on. Can’t remember what she said, but the presenter said she would need the equivalent of about £300k in a pot to achieve what she wanted annually. That number could be closer to a million at today’s rate?
For most of us working class people, the only hope is to invest it early and wisely and hope the markets do the rest.
My advice to anyone is start as early as you can, even if you can only put a small amount in. Years really do make a difference IMO.

 

Sort of, we reached a compromise. Not doing the 8 weeks they wanted but doing more than I hoped for to help recruit replacement.

 

My company has such a long winded process for rehiring that even if someone worked the full 3 months notice period, they wouldn’t have even started interviews for the position.
They recently offered a position for an engineering manager at one of our production sites and the fella there replacing retired a year ago

 

I’ve been paying in for 10 years now, only another 30 to go

 

It comes round quicker than you think

you will regret it before then as you will need to continue working to state pension age or what will you live on ?
