... I don't think so, but I'm open to persuasion. I've come round to the belief that, for all the harm that they cause, they're more trouble than they're worth.
Well, I don't believe anyone has to fly. Would Covid have killed 200,000 of us if aeroplanes didn't exist. Why do we have endless 'business flights' when we have Skype. Do gangs of lads really have to go to Ibiza because someone they barely know is getting married for a few years. Does anyone need to go to Egypt to find out that the Pyramids are pyramid shaped and covered in litter.
well, personally i really enjoyed lock down...the skies cleared, weather seemed more 'normal' and nature almost regained a bit of a foothold but as soon as restrictions were lifted they were down the travel agents knocking on the doors for that 'must have' holiday, you know the one that they post all over f/book how many 'sleeps' to go then the now obligitary drink at the airport piccy, then for the next week or two, non stop pictures of more drink...surely you can do exactly the same as you do for the other 50 weeks and stay home to drink? those that actually go abroad and have a look around, learn something about the culture etc are excluded from this rant.
Just amazes me what people put on, I'm not on Facebook or any of the other crap but the brother in law showed me one of his mates Facebook pages or it might have been Instagram I'm easily confused anyway it was pictures of him and his misses on holiday, he showed me other pictures of his house that showed the house number and even the road sign outside his house, if that wasn't bad enough he said that on his story whatever that is, it mentioned that he grateful to his mother who calls at 5.30pm for an hour to feed his cats and check on the house. How the hell his house wasn't empty when he came back god only knows
no flights did not stop the Black Death, Smug. But possibly covid deaths may have been less. I agree that commercial flights are not essential, but where a profit can be made, it will be made. Something I’ve noticed where I live, and maybe others have noted the same thing, from time to time there is a layer of oil, like a mist, on my car windscreen, which did not appear during lockdown. This inclines me to think it may be from aircraft. If it’s on our windscreens then it is in our lungs and on our clothes and skin. But I have benefitted extensively from air travel and seen and learned about other peoples and their countries, so I’d be a hypocrite to complain.
The Plague was carried by rats on boats mate, humans carried Covid. Flights from China were arriving hourly even after the outbreak had been identified. Why do Chinese people need to come here anyway, we already have loads.
sandy, you have had many years on this planet as i have...i would ask you to cast your mind back and remember the summer days of old when you would watch an airplane got overhead, leaving the vapour trails and how they would slowly dissipate behind the aircraft. these days if you watch they not only stay in the sky they spread out and give it a couple of hours they can cover the sky, block out the sun and cool the day down...many now call them 'chem-trails', i leave people to make up their own minds on that one.
My mates wife was convinced that taxi drivers used to pas on the addresses of people going holiday. Whenever they went abroad, he had to wave her and the kids off from the house as they got a taxi to the airport from Gosforth with the cases, then he had to get the metro through to the airport on his own and meet them there. Crazy but true.
back in the 80's when CB radio was the big technology of the day, a few taxi stations used them instead of the normal two way stuff, cheaper and easier to set up...one day i actually heard one base telling a driver to 'pick the family up at 7-00 from (address) as they are off to a show, they will need the return at 11:30', basically telling anyone listening that a house was more than likely empty for over 4 hours, anyone with unlawful intentions only had to sit in a car with a CB and wait for an address to be broadcast, airport runs were mentioned as well. i had stanley taxis trying to find me after i went mental at them for giving address' out over the air as well as pick up/drop off times etc...luckily i had variable power on my radio as well as a 6 stage amplifier, i kept them busy for hours
…and without flights people would come here by boat, thus bringing in covid, and once here would spread. I don’t know what your thoughts about the origin of covid are Smug, but I’m convinced it was created in the Chinese version of Porton Down and was released (probably) by accident. Outbreaks like covid take time to identify yet the Chinese started building emergency hospitals almost immediately. Now you’re going to shoot down my reasoning, aren’t you mate?
Totally with you on this mate, I believe personally that the majority of British people don’t know how nice Britain is with some amazing places. What we need is to start travelling our own beautiful country and to get our economy going again. I know people will go on and say the roads are clogged and it takes ages to get anywhere but I would rather be travelling for two hours by road than waiting around an airport for 2 hours before takeoff. Just my opinion and just putting my tin hat on lol
I reckon if God had wanted us to fly he would have given us wings and bird brains. Well we do not have wings.... not so sure about the other thing!
We'll never be able to go back. But, though I don't use facetwatterbook , I do see through others and sometimes direct to my phone , these pointless pics of people doing mundane things. You're right, it is mind numbingly boring. One of my lads was living abroad for a year and I asked him if he posted this kind of stuff. He said, " No chance, those who I know, know I'm here. I'd just look like a knob! " That did for me!
For those of us that live a long way from family (e.g. parents), travel is something other than a luxury. For me, flying in is really the only viable option. Cost of flights plus short rail fares is about 200€ (sometimes less), and I'm there in half a day. Rail or car with ferry or tunnel is over 1000€, takes 2 days each way, and needs an overnight stay.
In my job i have to travel all over Australia. It's too frigging big to drive everywhere. I'm currently 2000km from home so it's either a 2 hour flight or a 21 hour drive. So in summary, yes i believe that commercial flights are necessary.
