No, Vern said there would be a big announcement. He couldn't predict 6pm at 5.30 that bloke, I wouldn't pay much heed.
Signings will most likely be announced in July. Chill out spend time with your family and friends and enjoy your summer. It’s only a ****ing game. And it isn’t that good anyway.
The Twine signing would be exciting and for £3m+ add ons it seems like a really sensible deal. I've read a lot of people on Twitter saying it's an insulting bid. I don't believe it is, I don't think any £3m guaranteed bid for a L1 player is derisory. I think there also has to be an understanding of the market and I saw/read a lot of opposing fans, such as Boro & QPR saying they should go for him but they don't have the money. Boro will likely change once Spence leaves I know we're through COVID but the financial implications are still very much there so we're in quite a strong position as there won't be many in the Championship who can afford to spend £3m without selling a player first Unlike last year, it doesn't feel like there's the usual amount of big hitter. Norwich are always sensible, Burnley's owner is as tight as they come but you'd expect Watford to spend
Watford's problem/solution is that they are twinned with Udinese and Granada, so they can transfer players between the three at minimal cost, they do it every time. What they can't seem to get right is their manager. Norwich are looking to scale back massively, I doubt they'll be chucking much cash around like you say and Burnley are in pretty dire straights in terms of finances. If we can secure our targets early and get settled, we'll be golden.
It's definitely helped Watford over the years but you're right about the manager. The just never give anyone chance. Rob Edwards has a good reputation but he's young and could realistically take a while to get used to this level. Unless they've drastically changed their outlook, he won't be given that. The major piece for us is the centre forward. I think that'll dictate our season. I want a target man type and whilst Twine would be fantastic, I won't be getting my hopes up until I see who we bring in as the focal point
Signing Twine when we've just signed Allahyar seems pointless, they're very similar players unless, like some have suggested, he's being signed as a replacement for KLP. FWIW I don't think KLP is going to be here much longer, there are now six top flight clubs and two Bundesliga clubs after him, none of which we can compete with financially. Our only positive now seems to be that he's from Hull and he enjoys it here, so a worthwhile wage might stave off a move for a year if we don't go up, but personally I think he'll leave (based on what I've heard from inside the club, he's not pushing for a move but he wouldn't say no if an offer was put forward). I agree on the striker, I think that's got to be the priority as goals were pretty hard to come by last season and we need somebody who can put away the chances we create. I actually think our approach play at times was quality last season, but I lost count of the amount of times a superb cross or killer pass was played and nobody stuck it in the net. Umut Bozok might be available from Lorient in France, he just finished top scorer in Turkey but surprise surprise, both Fenerbahce and Besiktas want him.
Agree with all this. With Allahyar and Twine we do need options though and not just for the XI. In terms of the wide forward positions, we've only really got Longman and Williams as back ups. I think Randell would've done well at RWB had he stayed fit but I'm not sure he'll get much of a chance next season especially with the anticipated formation change. Have you heard much on the striker? Assuming Pesic still wouldn't fancy it, I'd quite like Diagne, on a free but I'm sure will have plenty of offers. he did have a bad injury last year though
Last year Fulham spent more than the rest of the division combined. Not sure the relegated clubs spent much then either (other than Fulham which was basically all just Wilson's fee).
We don't need to spend loads, what we need is quality in depth to stretch over the season. We've got a good basis, we just need to build on it with quality additions and I think we'll see that. I think there's a good chance we'll be top half this season at the very least.
My concern is if we're then looking to offload guys like Elder and potentially Doc, not to mention Ingram (less likely now if Baxter isn't coming), we're suddenly looking at a 60-70% squad overhaul. Not sure how quickly that side would gel.
We aren't expecting immediate success so the gelling of the squad isn't a major concern. There's a decent argument that we get as many in as possible this summer and they've got 12 months before we really expect to mount a challenge. Id rather do that then sign another 8 next summer too
