England will not even come close to winning the World Cup. More chance of them getting knocked out in the group stages with Southgate in charge.
Southgate has always played **** but got results, those results have now dried up. With this good a squad there is no excuse really.
England got lucky with their opponents at the 2018 World Cup. Lost to the first decent team they played. England really should have won Euro 2020. But after we scored in the 3rd minute in the final we shut up shop rather than go for the 2nd goal. Southgate is not a good coach and needs to go.
Southgate deserves utmost credit for the Euros but unfortunately his tactics in the final were responsible for the loss. We are in no state to go into the World Cup though and I am glad for this result as you could see the signs that he was being complacent and looking to frame this as a good international window overall. Now he needs to face up to the fact that his tactics are not working and there needs to be a change of tact.
Southgate was great up until the Final at Euro 2020. Not disputing that at all. But tonight is an absolute horror show. Plus we've scored one penalty in 4 games. Pathetic given the attacking talent in the squad. Southgate's popularity with the fans has just plummeted.
Pundits in Southgate defence mode and throwing out the ‘fatigued’ (why aren’t the other teams?) ‘they are allowed an off day’. (It has been an off fortnight). Group stage exit incoming unless someone in the England camp gets a dose of reality.
He's surely got enough credit in the bank for this WC? I've said before I feel this will be his last tournament but I see no benefit to making a change now Personally I think the second most successful manager in our history deserves that at the absolute minimum. He's certainly achieved more with England than Ralph with Saints yet you've been very vocal about Ralph deserving more time.
Can't compare Southgate and Ralph. Ralph has had to work with limited resources and Southgate has the entire pool of English footballers to work with. I've never rated Southgate as a tactician and I think England can get someone a lot better in.
Iran and the US aren’t slouches and Wales will step up 1000x against us. It is entirely plausible, it’s complacent and arrogant to suggest it is not. It SHOULDNT happen but this team need a firework up their arse, or it is entirely possible. Southgate does rightfully have credit for the Euros, but he does deserve criticism for this international window.
We have been crap and Southgate is way too negative in his style of play, but in fairness, it is not just us. Look at France, supposedly the best team in the world: Denmark: Lost Croatia: Drew Austria: Drew Croatia: Lost No one is going on about how bad they are. Also, Italy lost 5-2 tonight, Belgium couldn't beat Wales! The players are all fatigued, that is a fact. It is too late to change manager now with just 2 games to go until Qatar. Lets hope this is a wake up call and Southgate adapts his style of play
Honestly, sacking him now would have been like Liverpool sacking Klopp after that the run of home defeats the year after they won the league. Bloke comes in, does better than anyone else for generations and then ****ed off at first sign of trouble. Out of interest what happens if his replacement does worse in Qatar. Are they sacked if we don't reach the semis?
It's plausible in a way that most things in football are but that's not what you said - you said that we wouldn't as if it's realistic to expect us not to. Fancy a wager on it? Is it still Lampard you want to replace him?
