I thought we had burned our bridges with Leicester, after selling them Vestergaad and Bertrand. If they keep coming back for more, then bring it on. Liverpool only took our best players, Leicester seem to prefer our lesser lights. Kerching!
I don't hate Mo. He put in more of a shift than most of our attacking players: he pressed, he'd slide in for balls around the six-yard box (and got clattered a bunch for his troubles), and he generally worked for his spot in the lineup. Also seems like a really nice guy. He just lacks a carrying skill or the physicality to cut it as more than a fringe option in the PL. Mo with Tella's physical attributes or Tadic's forward passing or Lallana's unpredictability would be a really good player, because the intelligence and work rate seem to be there. Unfortunately, he just doesn't have that element of dynamism to his game.
The much vaunted clear out does not seem to have much traction at present. More like we appear to be in the initial stages of setting up a retirement home for aged players...
Just popped over to Saintsweb for the first time in about 5 years. I reckon I’d be a ray of positivity over there
I know right? It is there that loads of people believed completely the “no holds barred” rumour and keep banging on about it continuously as if it was official and there is actual audio of Dragan saying it “No holds barred my ass” is being said more than once by more than one person. It is getting worse than ever
Even if the no holds barred approach is actually what we are doing it’s only the 11th of June ffs. Most players who we would realistically be after will either be on holiday or with their international side. Pre season starts what like the first week of July? In an ideal world we would have all our signings done by early pre season to get the squad together for some crucial training/friendlies before the season starts but every club wants to do that. If we’ve only signed Minamino and extended Long by mid July then I can see why the negativity would be flowing, but right now it’s far too early to know what is going to happen
The latest gripes about “no holds barred” seems mostly tied to the extensions for McCarthy and Stephens (now official) and rumoured extensions for Caballero and Long. Never mind that the first two were pre takeover and cannot be just torn up, the Caballero one makes all the sense in the world and the Long one clearly involves a drastic pay cut or isn’t even happening at all Add in the Forster departure that people have been clamouring for for years (but now are upset about) and underwhelming rumours over extending Ely and being linked with an overpriced move for Minamino and SW are wetting the bed Funny that lots of other rumours are being ignored or dismissed as unlikely. For example we are linked with the Huddersfield midfielder but the feeling is (including with me) that if someone like Palace want him then he will go there. And yet when it is a rumour people don’t like (like Minamino) the link with a total of 5 clubs is brushed away (it seems) and we will win that race - the one the fans don’t want us to (along with others) As I think was said by someone on Saintsweb (in response to someone attacking the club for a long list of things most of which were pre-new owners) - there is glass half empty and then there is just sucking at parched air (or something similar as a comparison). Basically extreme negativity based on very very little
Sorry but you really are talking bollocks. There are people moaning on there about this sort of stuff, as there is here, but it really isnt representative of the forum as a whole. You trying to get a Mod job here or something Your comments is a bit like someone from there coming on here, reading Lincoln & Lovelocum’s posts and going back to SWF and slagging Not606 off as being really negative and stuff. (Btw Love & Lincoln, not getting at either of you just making a point - I think you have some valid views which are seen as negative ) People have opinions everywhere on stuff, but dont make **** up for whatever reason. If you dont like the forum, dont go on it. I mean, i get ****ed off on here at times, mainly about one thread, but I dont go on there slagging this place off, as generally this is a really good forum. The no holds barred stuff was people joking around tongue in cheek. Btw, im not arsed about a discussion on this with you, just calling out something I see as not totally correct. Enjoy your Saturday
I will judge the transfer window when it closes, but we don't need a good one. We need an amazing window. We are that team which is slowly deteriorating and will eventually get relegated unless something changes.
Id be surprised but he is still a better striker than what we have and unlikely to be poached again with possibly another 3 or so seasons of PL capability left in him. Id still take him. No more than 50% of what you paid though, soz Villa.
Yeah they basically need to accept a big loss on this if they are already admitting it isn't working (just like we might be with Armstrong). So 50% of the fee and wages at maximum I just don't see how Ings would consider it. Most people's egos wouldn't allow them to make such a move (I said most people so as to not target anything specific at Ings since I obviously have no idea what his ego actually is like)
I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if we sold Ely this summer. With only one season left on his contract, I want us to either sell him or get him to sign a new contract. With Theo and Djenepo, I'm resigned about not being able to convince anyone to pay us a fee. Redmond I think we could get some sort of low fee, but I don't know if it would be sufficiently high enough to outweigh keeping him for one more year. But with Ely, he is the one of the four who I think we could get an OK fee for, rather than losing for nothing. Not a particularly special fee, but decent enough.
