So 4-2-3-1 is mooted as a possible set up against the teams that defend deep, at the very least. Nunez Diaz/Jota? - Bobby/Carvalho - Salah/Elliott
And this one I dreamed up Ali VVD Trent robbo Fab thiago Carvalho Elliott Salah nunez diaz Upside down Xmas tree formation. Fm22 never stood a chance
I have to wonder sometimes. Just cos a guy is a big old unit and can finish doesn't mean he has to stand up in the box on his own. Suarez was what? a 9 or a false 9? its how you can play rather than assuming a formation. Can nunez play like jota/mane/firmino? I'd contend mane didn't play at all like firmino and jota played differently again. My questions: a) will we press high? b) If yes how would any set up work with nunez? will he lead the start of the press? etc etc c) will we play a high line at the back? I would contend yes. d) will nunez have his own style to bring - yes i would say. seems a hard runner and goes both sides as he feels. My view is this; when klopp first started this 433 i was kind of shocked TBH. the fonrt 3 really only played in position when the opponents had the ball. Mane left salah right. firminho working hard. The second we had the ball they went wherever. Mane flourished as he loved coming to the middle and that. if nunez is that good and moves about as well, and salah says he will be there and we already have seen jota and diaz doing the same. SURELY nobody is putting a straight jacket on the players to go play in slots. 433 allows players up front to do what they do. The triangles between full back, midfielder and wide forward are crucial. removing the midfield to push one guy right up into the box and add a 10 inside means that we no longer have the same triangle. It becomes a wide mane staying side a no 10 inside and a full back behind. Maybe this is PLAN A v PLAN B discussion? Dopes plan a change with nunez?
nah .............................nobody back ........Alisson on half way ......................VVD...... Konate............................... Robertson elliott............Fabinho... ............................Thiago... Diaz ...................Trent..... Firmino Salah............. ...................nobody in the box LOL I've given up trying to put numbers on klopps madness trent been ahead of the forwards on breaking runs this season at times. It doesn't seem to matter what forward plays the generally don't get in the box. Whoever is wide seems to be really isolated by the time a ball slowly makes its way out.
I doubt we'll change shape. You buy players to fit the system, a system that is implemented through every level of football at the club. It would be crazy to change it for one incoming player (that we chose to buy)
But small tweaks is how you keep opposition guessing. The formation may not changed since day 1, but the style has changed dramatically over course of last 5 years. Make sure don’t go stale. Tbh, looking at clips of him and reading some of the analysis on sky articles they’ve done, we has played out wide quite a bit. In that left wing cut inside, so I think labelling him as a number 9 up top central is a bit wrong. Seems to have enough about him to run with the ball.
Of course, but people are talking about different formations, hence my comment. And I don't mean @Sucky and his 12223 formation
I think by and large, we won’t tbh. When I watched him play, his quality was clear - he will work in either system imo.
Diaz can use both feet, so can Jota and it looks like Nunez can too. Seems like plenty of fluidity to me
Tbf I think formations aren’t as big a thing as before really. So flexible in how things are that rarely even line up in a 433 and when we bring a 4th striker on, it’s a bit of a mix where people play. Obviously tactically have positions, but the front 3 generally move around so much that hard to pinpoint an exact formation. If he signs, don’t see us changing much and will think diaz Nunez Salah will be first choice with Jota cover on left and central and firmino cover for middle. Now, the more interesting one is Carvalho as he does seem a more number 10. So interesting see where he fits, I assume will try mould him into the RCM role where pushed on a bit more. But in a 4231 you’d think he would be the one in that 10 behind Nunez with diaz and Salah either side.
Is it just me, or does anyone else when they see a still photo of Lewendowski think he looks like an old man who's been smoking his entire life. He looks too old and haggard to be a top tier athlete. . He makes Milner look like a teenager.
