Not seen him play so can’t really comment on him. Sounds like another Livramento type deal with a buy back clause. Good idea for a team like us to try and get the top teams talented youngsters. They might see it as essentially just a 2/3 year loan where if the player works out we get some money for helping develop him, if the player doesn’t work out then they don’t have to worry about binning him off
It is a rare win-win situation. We get them pretty cheap due to their age so the risk is small, but they are clearly very talented so could well get a quality player on the cheap and go on to make a tidy profit.
I understand why City put one in just to cover themselves. But I don’t quite understand why the city fans are clamouring so much for this. They will surely only need to use the clause if both of two things happen: 1. He improves exponentially 2. Ederson suffers a career ending injury in the next 7 or so years OR goes the Real Madrid. Surely a clause would have an expiry date and I struggle to see how he will become good enough to take the gloves off of Ederson within any kind of reasonable time limit. And if he is then we would have done very well out of this deal
Absolutly delighted with this signing....He was class as a 16 year old at Shamrock Rovers. Thrown in the deep end in Europe and in big matches for Rovers he never put a foot wrong. I remember him making an unreal peno save in a big match against Cork against current Bolton player Kieran Sadlier. Knew from that match that he was a special talent. His save away to Luxembourg was one of the best I've seen in person. https://twitter.com/ballsdotie/status/1459983223279157248? ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1459983223279157248%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-3999404681376141347.ampproject.net%2F2205270638000%2Fframe.html Welcome aboard Gav!
I know its TalkSport, but I'm sure he was told (same with Tino) that if you show up in pre season, a starting eleven spot is there for the taking.
He made the PFA League One team of the year. League One: Bazunu (Portsmouth), Darling (MK Dons), Whatmough (Wigan), Ihiekwe (Rotherham), Santos (Bolton), Bannan (Sheff Wed), Twine (MK Dons), Brannagan (Oxford), Stockton (Morecambe), Stewart (Sunderland), Keane (Wigan).
I was at a wedding last night and talking to a Pompey fan and he said basically what everyone else has said. He’s obviously too talented for league one, he was their best player and he’s really annoyed he’s going to Saints. He also said he’s really good with distribution and comfortable with the ball at his feet. All sounds promising on Bazunu, just need to be patient with him even if he makes some mistakes. Even experienced top level GKs **** up sometimes and give away goals.
Messaged my Citeh mate about him. He hadn’t seen him play, but had heard he was storming it at Pompey. I suppose when you have 50 international players at your club, you don’t count an Irish international as a real one. Gavin Who?
