I suppose she could, but, why stop there, when there's so many equally deserving a flick of the blade.

some folk choose to ignore that fact.
£1.7bn is the benefit to the nation of having the monarch….

here’s research from a renowned think tank:

nowt I’d say. Same for quite a few of them. It’s all about Queenie, Chas and Bill for me. The rest do little.

I would add Ann. She was the best of Queenie’s sprogs.

The monarchy doesn’t bother me one way or the other. Apparently only 27% of people think we should get rid of them so happy to retain them until the majority think otherwise. Do think they need to start dialing them back a bit though. We don’t need all the lesser royalty etc.

They also need to start to accept that their role is gradually diminishing. Clear that most of the Commonwealth want rid and they don’t do themselves any favours by going out to these countries and behaving like they own them. William and Kate shot themselves in the foot with their recent performance in Jamaica.

To be fair to them they don't force themselves on other countries. They only go following an invite, invariably through the foreign office and Commenwealth. Past, present governments have used them as a tool to sell the country which has multi facet benefits for the UK. Far more pros than cons, than having some divvie elected like a X Factor contestant as Head of State. Someone like Farage for example. People say it wouldn't happen, just look at how close Le Pen came in France.

There are many countries around the world that would love to have all the positives that come with an historic emblem of pomp and pageantry that we Brits, as displayed by our Royal Family, excel in. No-one can do pageantry better than us. Proper parades are great to watch. Our closest international friends absolutely love the history (that they don't have perhaps) that our Royal Family represent.

It might be imagery of a bygone era, but it looks majestic in the ceremonies that only our royals can hit.
Maybe it's more about tourism these days, but the fanfare of the military bands accompanied by horses and regalia - it's quintessentially a British strength revered around the world. For tourism alone, the country's balance of payments likes what the Royal Family chip in. I doubt the Queen fritters away huge sums in the running of her household. Her income essentially pays for British people to have jobs. Harry gets nothing now. Many of the others work for their handouts. From my understanding UK taxpayers money wasn't used to pay off Andrew's settlement.

Yes, it shows little power or dominance these days, but IMO puts us on the international map in ways that without their efforts would be less.

I understand that many under 30's don't want the royal family any more - ok let's replace them with politicians. Brilliant idea .. Butcher a symbol that helps us keep our place in the world. Just an opinion - can't say it's correct.

Just look at who the two leading candidates were for the last General Election. Who would have thought that would be the case even just 15 years ago.

Regarding your last paragraph (and I agree with all the rest too) maybe the reason for the under 30’s not wanting them is because the queen has stayed on for far to long.

Hear me out. She has stayed on for so long because she didn’t want to hand down now in previous generations that simply wouldn’t have happened. 10-15 years ago she should have handed down to William who could then have appealed to the younger generation but still keeping the modern theme.

Monarchy has its place but they have missed a trick here for me/
