Saints - CALL TO ACTION!! As you've seen, there's rather a lot of good stuff happening around Fable at the moment. Her new single, Onion Brain, is out on June 17th, and it would REALLY HELP me/us/it if you would be brilliant and pre-save the track (particularly if you use Spotify). You can do so at this link - https://lnk.to/OnionBrain THANK YOU VERY MUCH INDEED!
I've always been partial to a good protest song and this one is a belter! It was the anthem for the movement to free the great man and went a long way towards his eventual release. It was great to dance to too! Jerry Dammers is a genius!... What are your favourite protest songs?
So many to choose from, but here’s one from one of my Druid buddies Damh the Bard, singing at an anti-fracking protest a few years back. It’s a real belter:
And then why shouldn’t I push this one, as the campaign I wrote it for last year seems to be hotting up again. Please excuse the poor sound quality, I did it in GarageBand on my iPad.
No that was about a huge housing development on a green field site. This one is about reopening an quarry that’s been shut down for 40 years and has rewilded itself. Despite having 2 superquarries within a mile of Westdown Quarry, they don’t know if they can supply the demand for stone needed for the HS2 project. Anyway thanks for the kind words!
I have got quite a few of these records! (Monk, Coltrane and Jarrett but pefer the Standards trio to the solo stuff.) I am not afraid of music that is perceived as being "difficult" although it is equally true that some of it does not appeal. Not a fan of Serialism and think that a lot of Classical music fell off the rails mid 20th century although I think composers like Messaien and Reich have done a lot to rectify this. I can probably go more "outside" in my tastes with jazz than with Classical music. By the same token, happy to listen to some archaic country blues too. Thelonious Monk did say that you could dance to his music.
Forget all of this jubilee nonsense, here's an anniversary worth celebrating. This all time classic album changed the lives of millions all over the world after being released 50 years ago this month, it certainly changed mine as a ten year old kid listening enthralled through the wall of my older brother's bedroom wall and I often sneaked into his room to play it when he was out! Here's the whole album as it is meant to be heard, go on treat yourself, it never gets old and remember as the cover says, "play at maximum volume"...
