I'm quite excited by this appointment of Michael Beale. But ... It would be so QPR to get it wrong.. Everyone who has encountered Michael Beale has sung his approval, we seem to have grabbed the best coach outside of Pep, and Klopp. I really hope he succeeds with us, he seems a genuine bloke. Fingers Crossed. I didn't know anything about him a week ago, but now we have him. Bloody football eh?
Speaking to an old pal of mine who worked under him when he was youth development. Not a single bad thing to say about him. Great enthusiasm for the game, meticulous in his approach to football and more importantly, very enjoyable to work with him.
Don't like him. He couldn't even be bothered to shave for the occasion. What sort of example is that to set.
Mild word of caution. On the first day, when we lose 3 nil to Watford or Norwich, its a marathon, not a sprint!
I don't know if Clive's piece has been posted yet but it's an interesting (if lengthy) read. Big old load of waffle for the first couple if paragraphs but thereafter its great. I just hope expectations are managed properly, as Clive says an 11th ish placed finish whilst blooding more youngsters and making some dough off of one of our sellable assets would be pretty good going, but I'm sure a lot of folk will be insisting on play offs. Interesting season ahead that's for sure. https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/queensparkrangers/news/57852/the-beale-and-end-all-column
Perhaps we need to ‘unstick’ this thread and start a new ‘Beale has arrived, what do we want next?’ thread. The latest era has arrived!!
After being a bit critical of the board, this seems a very good and promising appointment. Pleased with this. Nice one Les and Co. If we can keep hold of a couple of our best players and bring in a few more with potential, then it it will be a good summer.
It's a bit of a War and Peace effort by Clive, wonder if he pre-wrote other ones for Manning and the others who were in the running (admittedly, the Sherwood one would've been about two paragraphs saying how much of a **** he is ). Interesting analysis though - hopefully Beale, Les, Ramsey, Hall, and the board are all aligned, we can start getting some contracts in front of those players who we want to retain (Barbet for a start?) and start to bring in some fresh blood, either loans or permanent. I'm not expecting too much from his first season except a good playing style and blooding some of our youngsters....this is a chance for him to lay the foundations for a push in following seasons. A sensible acquisition from our board - was getting a bit worried that they didn't have a clue what they were doing, but the interview process seems to have been done diligently this time - just hope they don't get itchy trigger fingers if results don't go our way from the off. Back on the good old QPR rollercoaster - let's hope it's a good ride this time round.
I'm certainly not insisting on play offs. I was just pissed off that we blew it so spectacularly when we were almost nailed on. Patience needed.
And realism. He has no control over how much he can spend or the terms offered for those he would like to retain. We will all get behind him I'm sure but we've been here before with coaches with glowing reputations who have never had the responsibility of picking the team, the tactics and the Plans B. Remember Ray Harford? And Stewart Houston.. The choice made is bold but exciting though.
Yes, agree Les and co look they have done a good, thorough job with this appointment process as I think they did with Warburtons', and many of our player acquisitions, the last few years.
