I wonder what the future holds for Bale. Obviously a lot depends on the Wales game coming up. Levy would obviously love the idea of bringing him back for one last jaunt, whether Conte is on board is another question. On the pitch it makes a lot of sense, he’d be an impact sub and could start games we’re more likely to dominate if we want to rest Kulu and need someone to produce a bit of magic to unlock a parked bus. But Conte places a big emphasis on fitness and, for want of a better word, ‘durability’, and I wonder if Bale passes muster there. I think Levy would struggle to stomach the idea of Bale turning out in another PL club’s shirt though. He bloody loves our Gareth.
There was a rumour in January that Conte was happy to have Bale back, whether that's true or not though remains to be seen. As you've mentioned, Conte definitely likes a certain type of player with a certain type of mentality but I do think that the prospect of having Gareth Bale in the squad and on the bench - when there's 5 subs to utilise next season - would be incredibly appealing to him, as it would just about every other manager. Until Messi or Ronaldo start taking a back seat as squad options (which probably won't even happen), I don't think there's a better quality player than Bale to bring onto the pitch in games where you may need an equaliser or to put the game beyond doubt. For personally, it's one of the most no-brainer of no-brainer signings going, just as Perisic was and just as Eriksen also is.
Rumours are is that if Wales don't qualify for the World Cup he will retire. If they do, he will sign a short term contract with Cardiff. Guess it'll be a case of whether he wants to continue to play. Could have a couple of seasons with us and pass on a lot of his experiences and mentality and help shape our future...would love that to happen. Was against him returning last time but even under difficult circumstances he gave his all so the idea of him in front of a packed WHL would be glorious
I think that's the difference, for a seasoned pro who has won everything the sound of a crowd shouting your name is the essential ingredient to producing your best. As I have said before it was the ultimate irony that Bale returned to a brand new Spurs stadium and no crowd, yet he still produced some magic moments with very limited game time. With an upgraded Spurs team that plays with confidence and organisation the chance to bring on Bale with 25 minutes to go would be a great option to have.
With his ability to score from distance, he would be invaluable against those teams that park the bus.
I do not believe he can maintain the match fitness levels to that needed for a WC finals campaign, if he went to Cardiff. On that basis, if Wales qualify IMHO the only suitors would be Spurs or the Toon. "Guess it'll be a case of whether he wants to continue to play. Could have a couple of seasons with us and pass on a lot of his experiences and mentality and help shape our future... would love that to happen." That could be some legacy.
Bring him back. I wanted him back last time and I think this Spurs team would be an even better fit for him now.
FAKE ALERT Just incase you see anyone quoting this guy, it's not real - the userpic is from ShutterStock
I would have Bale back just for the last 15 minutes of a game when we need a goal. He can make something from happen from nothing. I'm sure with the amount of games we play next season he will get enough game time to keep fit. If he goes somewhere like Cardiff, they will over rely on him and could lead to injuries.
The Italy squad are using Spurs Lodge to train ahead of their match with Argentina Right, so all we have to do is "accidentally" lock Bastoni in a room with Levy, Paratici and Cuti Romero...
I wonder if Levy intended this as part of the whole lodge deal? Having a variety of international sides training there certainly can't hurt, can it?
1. A bit of bonus money to the club at the minimum. 2. Good club PR if the : - facilities are good in general, and amenable to travel to/from airports/stadia etc - visiting squad has international mega-stars in their ranks 3 Potential Levying Especially if the visiting squad has Spurs players in their ranks.
I mean we need him to be able to run, so maybe lock him in with someone who won’t go through the back of him as soon as the door opens, just to let him know he’s there early doors?
Fair play if he wants Cardiff, it would be a homecoming. But I’m not sure he maintains the right level of performance and fitness there. He’ll get plenty of minutes starting and off the bench at Spurs with our upcoming schedule, and he’ll be very motivated if Wales get the WC. I think Levy would be desperate to get him back again too.
He had hardly any game time before the Wales v Austria game and didn't do too badly. I can't see him going to Newcastle unless they throw shedloads of money at him - which he doesn't need. Also, a long way north, crap weather and few golf courses of any note. Cardiff is his home town and his family live there. I couldn't see Cardiff paying him much, if anything, although he would get a good percentage of any merchandising relating to him. Cardiff have excellent training facilities, a good ground (if only half the size of Spurs) and the training facility is next to the Vale Resort with 2 good golf courses one of which is international standard. As at Spurs he would be idolised and guarantee a full house at home games, even against Rotherham on a crappy Tuesday night in November. I think the choice of games where he would play would be selective and unlikely to be twice a week. The rumour here is if Wales qualify for Qatar, he would come to Cardiff until the world Cup ends then up to him to decide on football or golf. Would Spurs, in particular Conte, be as flexible? I must admit that as a Spurs fan and season ticket holder at Cardiff I'm happy either way although I think he would generate a lot more local excitement and improved football quality if he came to Cardiff. We haven't announced any new signings for 10 days after 4 in a week so perhaps Cardiff are waiting for the big reveal after Wales win (I hope) on Sunday.
