Ben Stokes (Durham) captain James Anderson (Lancashire) Jonathan Bairstow (Yorkshire) Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire) Harry Brook (Yorkshire) Zak Crawley (Kent) Ben Foakes (Surrey) Jack Leach (Somerset) Alex Lees (Durham) Craig Overton (Somerset) Matthew Potts (Durham) Ollie Pope (Surrey) Joe Root (Yorkshire The name tour England xi and oredict how badly they get thrashed by new Zealand game. Any takers?
1. lees 2. Crawley 3. ? Pope?? Brook?? 4. Root 5. Bairstow 6. Stokes 7. Folkes(w) 8. Overton? 9. Broad 10. Leech 11. Anderson I can see this going really really well and engaging scoring at least 50 for 2 before root comes in. We might get 60/3! #progress.
offical team is in Zak Crawley (Kent), Alex Lees (Durham), Ollie Pope (Surrey), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Jonathan Bairstow (Yorkshire), Ben Stokes (Durham), Ben Foakes (Surrey), Matthew Potts (Durham), Jack Leach (Somerset), Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire), James Anderson (Lancashire) debut for potts pope is sacrificial lamb sent to slaughter by the selectors to protect root and stokes bowling is extremely light so again my prediction stokes would think he can do it all comes true. He will basically have to bowl quite a lot in these 3 tests. Leach to not be bowled at all as per. I half expect stokes to throw the ball at root to bowl sprin.
its virtually an england level batting collapse Potts getting and early wicket takes all the pressure off the lad. if we were to go 50/1 now nobody would really be all over him. The toss was won here wasn't it? It could prove very crucial as had england gone in and done this (15/4) the pressure would see them fold.
from BBC feed It might be something, it might be nothing, but this is what Stuart Broad told the media earlier this week... “Brendon has come into the bowling group and said ‘don’t focus too much on economy rates, I want wickets, let’s try to get as many wickets as we can, as quickly as possible. "'Let’s have the mindset of where can I get an extra slip or short leg from, rather then being too defensive.’ “That’s something the bowlers will have to implement.” I can only presume this was broad having his say of overly negative england ex coaches and captain who were rightly fired. A bowler will always want men in positions to stop runs for 4 but catching is the name of the game really. then again... nz might just be ****.
132 all out with 4 for the old grandad proving his point and 4 for the new kid eager to make a name. 13/4 is some set of numbers for a newb. And actually 66/4 for jimmy is horrid numbers for the old man. Clearly it was catching not stopping runs today. Anders wouldn't like to be going for 4.12 that's double what he would want to be at. 19/0 at time of writing. Theres a few rank shots in those wickets but broad and anderson got massive movement to induce geuine issues. Potts 2nd was a chop on off a nice line ball but high and his third while a lovely shape was a swinging bat not defending. Lovey clip the stumps ball though esp for a debutant. the tail were a few poor wafts and potts did beat his man for lbw so its a lot of positives for that kid in terms of shape of delivery and where he could place the ball. Just waiting for england to throw wickets away now.
69/1 crawley throws the bat at the ball again. as far as i can see its just a regulation bit of seam on a ball coming in at the stumps and just straightens away 43 runs = "ok" but he's absolutely thrown the bat through the line there and nicked it to an absolute dolly to catch behind. missed opportunity to rack up a decent score there.
Pope out swinging bat at another thst is a routing in to out Root plays at one hard that's high and chops it to gully poor. Lees lbw. Stokes now ****s it again swinging away. England learned absolutely nothing with the bat.
