Been mulling over the Milner thing the last week or so. I've come to the conclusion that it's a no brainer. If we could get him on a free and his wages weren't too high I'd take him in a heart beat. Let me explain the reasons why. 1) His recent performances for Liverpool have been outstanding. We'd only get 10 to 15 games out of him though but he wouldn't let us down at full back, midfield or wide. 2) He is doing his badges. Wants to be a coach. Offer him the chance in his second season to join the coaching staff. 3) He loves the club. 4) The most important. Vitally important with the season we have just had. Milner is widely recognised as one of the best professionals in the game. He's a leader. He drives the standards in the dressing room. I think a few of our lads might need a kick up the arse and shown how a true professional behaves day in day out. He will drive that in to those around him and instill vital behaviours in to everyone. Those players are invaluable, especially the younger lads.
Will you two stop arguing for ****s sake. Just kiss and make up. Shaks on top I'd say...but then again maybe London
No no no no no no... 37 in January and elland would have a field day with that. Good idea to offer him a player coach role in my opinion.
Like I said, it's not really about him being a player as such. May aswell register him though. I've looked at the body language of the lads at times especially when substituted. They sulk off, throw their arms up, mumbling and trudge off. Rapha, Klich, Rodrigo have all repeatedly dismissed coaches and managers when coming off. That's a kind of behaviour that can spread and cause problems. Every single one of Milners management have singled him out as an example of the perfect professional and a guy who sets the standards for those around him. Him coming and instilling that in to the changing room might even be the best signing we make. If Rodrigo and Co decide they don't like Marsch and start acting up again we might just end up in the Championship next time. For me, if its possible, I'd snatch him up no problem.
Kenneh has had to stand in for skipper Cresswell and Cresswell is older. LoL we have some top kids in the 23s and even Aaronson said he was looking forward to playing with Gelhardt and Bate. Dont understand why some like to have a pop at our kids. Orta has assembled a brilliant group but they got fked by the club this season so some are leaving to play football.
We had massive injury problems and yet these u23s hardly got a sniff. Greenwood got one start in the last game. Kiddies football and we got relegated. Kenneh has got his dream move to feckin hibernian.
Who’s having a pop? Most young kids at every club don’t make it and Kenneh for the time being hasn’t. This might be the proving of him but I’m just not ready to hail the kids as the new coming when evidence suggests they likely won’t be.
Signing Milner would be a good idea imo Yes he's 37 but he's got 20 years worth of experience at playing at a top level. He can pass that experience and knowledge to the young guns. Aaronson is only 21 and Bate 18/19. He could help guide them. He may only play 20 games this season but it's another midfielder which we've been lacking for years. On a free it's worth a punt. Let's face it. It will be us or he'll go to Brighton
You have to remember Milner is currently surrounded by top class professionals at Liverpool that mask his deficiencies. There is no hiding place in our team and at his age it would quickly become apparent that he'd be a bit of a liability. Unfortunately you can't beat father time but as I said on the other thread to come in as a player coach wouldn't be a bad thing. The proviso being he's paid accordingly as someone who's primarily with us to do his badges and then work his way throught the ranks as a coach.
Yeah, I get he's not as good as he used to be and he's been around the likes of Van Dyke and Salah for the last few years however he's been around some good managers. He could pass that knowledge down to the likes of Aaronson and Bate they could even teach him to be less boring.
