Seems the club started rumours about DJ leaving on loan to generate interest before the window closed. The player himself had stated he was happy at Leeds but now he'll be at a direct rival for PL survival for no other reason than to save a bit of cash during a summer when we've made a profit on transfer dealings.

Very strange decision all round and the best possible outcome for both Dan and Leeds United is that he does well and then gets a permanent transfer next summer as it has to be doubtful he'd want to back into the fold now he's been deemed surplus to requirements.

Jack Harrison almost certain to now pick up an injury in the next few weeks to further emphasize that last season's lessons most definitely have not been learnt.

The fact that James didn't want to go out on loan makes it even more annoying because I think over the season he would have been on asset for us.<ok>

I still think there is a strong possibility of James returning, it might be that we replace Jesse before next season starts. We’re all still living off the back of that Chelsea win, but when players start worrying about injuries before the WC and when the usual suspects break down we could be in for a rough ride.

My judgement of Jesse is clouded, I’m not going to pretend it isn’t. Maybe because of that I’m feeling part of the reason James has gone is down to him being a Bielsa favourite, just like KP. Another part definitely Radz being tight, it all makes no sense

    It’s truly baffling Rich.

Obviously not everyone on here rates Dan James but surely even his harshest critic could see that he adds value to the squad and therefore would have made an important contribution over the season as a whole.

Loaning out an experienced PL player to a rival makes no sense whatsoever.

My view on James is one of sympathy to be honest. How many games did we get to see him played in position? Not enough to form an opinion on him for me. He always tried hard. As to whether he's being pushed out. Well it looks that way from what we're hearing but it may be a world cup thing, he could have been unhappy at likely limited opportunities.

I think Marsch pushing him out because of Bielsa implication is nonesense. Marsch will be judged on his results, he'll want the best squad possible. He may feel that James doesn't really suit his style of play (unlikely as i'd say James is made for it) - or that he simply doesn't think he's good enough... this seems far more likely as plenty share that opinion. It seems other sides don't share that opinion.

Do i find it strange that we would weaken the squad in this manner? Defnitely. I thought they were thinking james for gakpo which i could perfectly understand... and i'm sure that was the logic... but to go ahead with James for Gnonto? Strange.

Dan james is a poor footballer. We need better why do you think man utd got rid. They saw us coming and fleeced rads. Bielsa chose him and i never saw anything to suggest james was anything but a championship player. We will be stronger with him gone as we have better in the sinnerman and wee jimmy who both know where the net is.

Dan James just needs to play in his strongest position and get a run of games ... if Fulham use him properly he's going to be a real asset for them putting balls in for Mitrovic ... didn't see this coming, but it looks like Marsch has decided to hang his hat on Summerville being ready for the first team ... Scum only sold him because Ronaldo decided to go back there

let's see how James does at Fulham, if it goes well we get a confident and improved player back next season ... always shines at international level so we know he's got the ability, as I said just needs a run of games

Regarding why did a club let a player go, you could say that about any player. All these promising U23s why are we able to snap them up? Because the club they’re leaving have better prospects, we’re just hoping they’re wrong.

Look at how Lewis Bate was bigged up when we signed him, Poveda another, we got him cheap and he chose us because of first team football. NO we got him because City could see he was never going to make it. Bogusz another name that jumps out and we’ve never seen what he can do

I said this time last year that signing him was a big mistake.

Now we had a chance to rectify Bielsa's biggest f**k-up...should've sold him.

I’m not saying Dan James is a fantastic footballer but I don’t know what your basing your judgment of sinner man and in particular wee jimmy on. Neither have anywhere near as much as James in the premier league and if either gets injured where is the backup to come in?

I think the club rate Sinisterra highly and expect him to replace Raphinha. It's obviously been seen in training and in the matches he has played as he has been picked in front of James. He will be first choice going forward.

Harrison is the go to man on the other wing.

Aaronson has been great in wide areas and can play wide on either side.

That leaves James as 4th choice winger.

Summerville is rated highly by the club and needs gametime especially now he has signed a long term contract. They see a bright future for him and don't want to lose him.

However, the big issue will be wages. Our first team squad is bigger this year. Therefore the wages will be too. James will be a high earner and is 4th choice. Makes it easy to loan him out and get a striker in. We also get a loan fee. With a loan fee, we don't have to give Scum a 20% fee. If we sell him, Scum get 20%. So for example, if we loan him for 10 million this season, with a transfer fee of 15 million at the end of the season, we only pay 20% of 15 million to Scum (3million) instead of 20%of 25 million (5 million).

    It's actually decent business.

That all makes sense except surely we only pay them a % of any profit we make on the sale, not any fee? If we do then we have the worlds worst transfer negotiators bar none!!! Even worse than Radz knowing when a signing is over the line and complete. If we sell him for 15 million surely they get nothing. I also think that if this forward isn’t premier league ready with all the injuries it’s nothing short of a dereliction of duty, we’ve got an army of “ones for the future” and our success rate for these are piss poor.

Regarding the clouded view, you do know most of this seasons succesful signs are ex Marsch players so fair to assume they were signed on his recommendation. That alone puts him high up in my books
