Was thinking along similar lines myself. How about players from the Revie era such as Terry Yorath & Mick Bates etc ? Didn't see enough of them personally but maybe some of our older supporters can offer an opinion.
Now the season's over what are the verdicts on Dan James. From my point of view he had to endure being played out of position for virtually the whole season with very few games played in his natural wide position. Both Marsche & Bielsa used him up top in Bamford's absence and whilst he gave his all he clearly isn't best suited to that position. This was clearly shown when in one of his best performances he came on as a second half substitute against Burnley (h) and produced a great 30 min cameo wide on the left all capped off with the vital 3rd goal. Hopefully next season he can kick on and produce more displays like that one.
Like James tbh and given he had to play out of position in most games, I think he had a decent season. Think he could improve under Jesses system. Oops, hadn't read Jammys post. Repeating what was said
How **** though ? If we’d signed him whilst in the Championship as intended would he be seen as a decent investment at £10M ?
just my thoughts, when we nearly got him at around that price it in my opinion would have been a decent buy as he would also have had a significant period of time with the guy who really wanted him .....when he went to scum he had a decent start but was in the opinion of my season ticket holding son-in-law found to be a bit of an headless chicken and was deemed in a lot of fans eyes as not up to standard.....we overpaid for him at 25 mill but fair enough been played mostly out of position, i think this is a big season for him to hopefully be the speed merchant with some kind of end product on a regular basis....over to you danny boy
I like him personally. As you say he was played out of position, but still gave IMO 100%. I don't remember him sulking when subbed and he has a bit of grit to him as well as tackling back. If used correctly he could do some damage to the opposition. I'll forgive him for his rash sending off because we survived in the end.
Nah. He's quick and he works hard. I like that. Is he good enough technically or ability wise for this level? No. Saying "He's ****!" was disrespectful to be fair. I like the kid really. Problem is that he is top end Championship quality. Its not his fault. I'd be surprised if he was a hit here or anywhere else in the PL. He'd have been good for us if we went down.
Harrison or James? Their best position is wide left. Don’t want either to leave but no point in having both of them. Which is why James was a waste of £25m as Harrison was already here. So if one had to go I’d rather it was James. Personally I’d like to see Harrison at LB with James operating ahead of him. That would work imo.
That's fair comment. My feeling is he needs to play a settled position, which would be left wing for me and also have a decent full back behind him so they can build a sound rapport. Then whoever is coaching him needs to teach him how to cross or should I say pass the ball into certain areas for a centre foward. Once he does that on a consistent basis it will all start to come together. At the moment everything seems off the cuff with him and therefore the end product is haphazard at best. Problem is he was played right and left side at scum and then Wales tend to play him centrally up top...it's no wonder the lad is a little confused.
Pretty much what Forza said but the other way round for me. I don’t think there is a lot in it but James pace scares defenders to death. How much would we get selling James would we make a profit or lose money? Surely we can get £30m for Harrison, that’s double our money so Jack to go
I like it sell the one who makes some profit. Sometimes it has to be a business decision plain and simple.
