No argument from me on this post and most Spurs fans will have reservations and fears, You don't have to go back far with Spurs to see 7 signings with the Bale money or 100 million on Ndombele and LoCelso as well as the clubs you points out. But I think how we started this season and the last couple of years you cannot blame us for being excited at the prospect now that Conte has made his mark. It goes like this; in January we made two game changing signings and bearing in mind we lost Skipp through injury, who at the time was becoming our banker midfielder the improvement in performance of the squad has been impressive. The team who played you at the Emirates was fragile and lacking in confidence. Our defence was porous and our midfield overrun. The team who played you at Tottenham were completely transformed with a solid defence and a decisive midfield providing for our attackers. That's the measure of Conti's work. I think we are entitled to feel some excitement looking forward to next season, I don't expect 6 signings, if that is what we make, to all succeed, but if just half of them improve our present squad Spurs will start to count.

I like Conte but I wouldn’t say I’m his biggest fan. He still has faults. His substitutions are at times baffling and he’s inflexible. Plus he’sa little too emotional when things aren’t going his way. He needs handling like a spoilt child. However, it’s difficult to argue against the impact he has had on the team in such a short space of time. I think since his arrival, spurs are the third highest in points gained. There are lots of positives that should allow us to be quietly optimistic. I was surprised to hear Conte’s family are still living in Italy and that he’s here on his own. That worries me more than anything else. At the slightest problem, he is prone to throwing his toys out of the pram and with his family in Italy, he’s susceptible to walking away from the club. In the meantime, I’m enjoying where we are compared to recent history. I’m enjoying the ride, having dreams and aspirations that maybe one day, we’ll win something eventually!
Re. the Italy thing, his daughter is quite young and in school, so they don’t want to move. That’s all there is to it, I think.
He has a 14 year old daughter and didn't want to interrupt her schooling. I think that he reckoned there was a fair chance that he'd be out the door come the summer, so moving the family to London was a big thing for just 6 months. However, it's been commented that his family loved living in London and for a longer stay, it might be that they move here, as they did when he was at Chelsea. We can only hope that he reaches a decision that keeps him happy....and at Spurs!
I just want to make clear that I’m not saying you shouldn’t be excited or happy about your future prospects - you are more than entitled to feel that way and, factoring in the state Nuno left you in (not all his fault tbf), you’ve had a tremendous season to finish in the top-4 (as much as it pains me to say). I would feel the exact same if I were in your shoes, believe me, particularly with a world-class manager like Conte. I just think that it’s going to be a lot tougher across the board because everyone wants to improve, everyone has the capacity to sign big players and everyone is looking to close the gap on the big-six. Aston Villa have just signed one of the most sought after midfielders in Boubacar Kamara and could potentially be signing Yves Bissouma too. A club who are a lower midtable outfit have this power and ambition. It’s nuts. Anyway, I digress - my overarching point is that we’ve both been burned in the past by poor transfers and unforeseen circumstances, but we’ve also been pleasantly surprised when we didn’t expect it either (moreso you than us in recent years), so assuming there will be a linear improvement year-on-year is risky in this day and age. It wouldn’t surprise me if you lot have a tremendous season, compete across all fronts and win a trophy (lol), but it equally wouldn’t surprise me if Conte adopts a scorched earth approach the moment something goes wrong and your season unravels. Just be mentally prepared for every scenario!
Prepared for every scenario...? We're Spurs fans. We're prepared for scenarios that haven't been thought of yet... We've made some terrible buys in the last few years. We've operated a transfer committee containing too many opinions and too little expertise and funding. To add to the failings, we've tried to come up with bargains or taken punts on players that haven't come off. Daniel Levy has regularly signed players that his coaches haven't wanted and played only when absolutely necessary Too often sporting considerations have come a poor third to making savings on transfer fees and wages and second or third choices have provided a poor imitation of the players we needed and the coach wanted. When we've needed a striker, we've bought wingers...or defenders instead of midfielders. Now, Levy has been excluded from the process. We have an acknowledged expert in charge of that process, who has a great relationship with the coach and a budget to get the players the coach actually wants...and a coach who will attract top talent, because they want to work with him. Appointing Conte is as close as one can get to a guarantee of quality and success. Without him, we'd have finished 6th or 7th. Conte and Paratici, left to get on with spending a significant budget, mainly to buy defenders and midfielders, will yield better results than we've managed for quite some time. After 53 years of supporting the , I actually have some faith that this summer will see significant progress.
Ah, I didn’t realise he had a young daughter at school. That explains why they have stayed behind. Still, if the family moved to London, I would relax a bit more. I completely understand why they haven’t moved to London yet though given nature of his contract. Let’s hope Conte and Spurs discuss the viability of a longer term contract then! Get him settled here with his family. That will provide some stability and make for a happy manager.
