How many times have we (I included) said that over the last 9 years? It seems that this club and this team always manage to find a new low.

interesting that the so called top six clubs occupied the top 6 places. We just managed to scrape in. With the shambles and chaos that engulfed the club this season we should have been out.

what I’ll be looking at this summer is whether we bring big names in without any idea of how they are going to fit in and how we are having to change the system to fit them in.

I truly hope that we are done with “big names”. I do not enjoy any part of it. Especially when it comes at the cost of insane salaries for men that have barely proven themselves.

I just want a good competitive and hard working team that will die to wear the shirt. Perhaps it is too much to ask…

We need to take this season and just bin it. We go again next season with a new manager who knows his own mind, who has a proven track record in developing young players together with some coaches who seem to actually have some experience in the top flight.
As De Gea seems to have been quoted saying - those that don't want to be at the club and play for the shirt can just go. Personally I'm looking forward to the summer transfer window and the start of the new season.

completely agree that we just need to look forward to the new season. Like everyone here I am just hoping that we recruit players on the basis of suitability to the team rather than their high profiles and shirt sales. And whether they would make the team stronger rather than just potential. And it’s a shame we had to endure such an awful season. Apart from the relegation season, I can’t remember a worst one. We started with such high expectations and they were rapidly dashed with both managers.

I watched TenHaag’s press conference. He seems a level headed guy and he needs to be supported to bring the players he wants not those who fit the club’s image or finance dept. Also when he cracks down on the remaining players. I’ve had enough of prima Donnas and stories of dressing room unrest and cliques and humiliating underperformances to last me a lifetime.

Jurrien Timber (fullback) from Ajax looks to be Ten Hag's first signing. Pau Torres high on priority list as the cb.

    Timber is a centre half.

Although can play right back it seems, so if Torres were to also come he could end up there.

Interesting watching Chris Smalling in this match.

When you consider the spoofers ans ****e we kept, that the likes of Smalling, Herrera, Ibrahimpvic were allowed to leave is ****ing scandalous.

I'd add Mourinho to that list to be absolutely honest. That he was ultimately replaced by Solskjaer is a ****ing joke for a club of United's stature.

I will never understand how we let Herrera go, the man lives for football and loved the club, all this on top of being a class player.

Smalling i understood at the time and thought we could improve on him. Look what we ended up with <doh>

Ibrah was always going to move on and i don't think we had much say in it, we were a top name club and league that he ticked off and succeeded in but i think the pace got at him a bit.

Not sure about Jose, he was working with the clown Woodward and probably wanted/needed a bit more control of things.

Not saying Zlatan should still be with us now, but the fact he is still playing shows he left us too early.
Down to Jose that I believe, not the man himself.

Mourinho fell out with Woodward, and once Woodward presented him with players he didn't want, and didn't give him the ones he did want, the end was nigh.

Typical of the Woodward era that. Brought in a nodding yes man instead.

We can use hindsight to lament which players should have stayed. But overall, players come and go. What is harder to come by is a good manager, a winner, and someone that could get a reaction from his players - and we certainly had one in Mourinho.

However, most of us certainly wanted Mourinho gone by the winter if that year. Things felt very toxic at the time that there was no return. But what many of us didn’t appreciate at the time was how fkd Woodward was in presiding over the club affairs. In hindsight, the club should have backed the manager over the horrible egos in the team.

So many textbook mistakes at the very top of the club because the owners knew sht about football and Woodward only really cared for commercials which gave the Glazers exactly what they craved for the most - dividends.

There is a sports psychology textbook waiting to be written about what went wrong at the club right before Sir Alex left. Number one has to be hiring Woodward.

    Absolutely this.

From the first few weeks of his appointment to replacement I was critical of him together with the GGs. He set the tone and culture for the running of the club. I remember the season when he tried to bring players in and failed every time when he was outsmarted by every other club. His recruitment was so ****ing awful as to be unbelievable. In the end he managed at the last minute to bring Mata and Fellaini after chasing several top players. His priority like the GGs was just to do enough to get top 4 where all the money was. Years of trying to be just good enough will take time to reverse.

Erik ten Hag ‘approves Pau Torres signing’ as Man Utd put Victor Lindelof up for sale.

Now that is what you call a double whammy! Happy for both to happen. Lindelof needs to go.

Brilliant if true, where did you see that?

If you recall, going back to the Mourinho ****show, he (Lindelof) was signed by Woodward under Mourinho. He was first identified, however, when van Gaal was in charge.
Jose wanted a centre half, was told he'd just been given £35 million Lindelof, who he knew was not goood enough, and the souring of the whole situation began right there.

I think Jose wanted Koulibaly? Woodard said no.

Woodward was regularly signing players the previous manager wanted ffs. He did it with Herrera and Shaw, who were both initially identified by Moyes but given to van Gaal.

    The man was a joke.

Ole gunnar really matched or just rose above expectations every season for you except the last and i wonder how much that has to do with the ronaldo signing and hence that meant coupled with sancho he couldnt get other midfield or defensive signings?

In all honesty he was your best manager since fergie,he had a style of play which matched your club, was a good man manager, gave the youth a chance and was developing them well, even had a great record in big games and every season was better than than last until last season.

I saw it in a few places on social media. But that particular quote was in the Express... so, well, could be just paper talk. I hope it's true, Lindelof has to be on the list of players out the club.

Apparently the news on Pau Torres is coming out of Spain though.

I've looked again and now there's talk of Frankie De Jong again. I'm not too sure about him tbh but Ten Hag allegedly is a "big admirer" and wants him.

Ronaldo was fck all to do with the problems at United. It's easy for everyone to buy into the media rhetoric.

Ole's style of play in his first 4 months was promising and very much in keeping with that of the club. But gradually it turned to thick pea soup. Overly cautious, no creativity, playing it back and sideways ad-infinitum. It was utter garbage in the last 10 months of his tenure.

He was a **** man manager, because he lacked all authority and leadership. He wanted to be their mate and it showed on the pitch because they stopped giving 100%.

He failed every big game test. Yeh he beat City a couple of times, but never enough to get past them in a semi-final. He was "nearly man" when it came to big games.

I can't even begin to reply to the comment about him developing our players. NOT ONE improved under him. Not one <laugh>
