Could be a case of shoot or be shot, not much choice in that circumstance. Needs to be punished but whole life does seem harsh.

Exactly what I was alluding to mate, if he hadn't of shot the civi, he wouldn't be here himself today. Young man given a gun and sent to war, for the sick vibes of World Leaders, yet he's the one who ends up with a life sentence, all seems so wrong to me.

It is the one who ordered him to shoot the civilian that deserves the bigger punishment, probably threatened to shoot him if he didn't shoot the civilian

I mean, you shoot a civilian, it's murder. So other than some pretty extenuating circumstances (haven't followed the trial) it is what it is.

Yeah life for murder seems about right for me.

Pretty sure that "I was just following orders" hasn't been deemed a valid defence since Nuremberg.

No where in my post did I say it wasn't murder.

No where in my post did I say they that he shouldn't be punished.

I made an assessment under UK law, that very rarely, probably a handful of people get life that means life, and generally for the most grotesque crimes. I know in America where you have lived for a long time, the law differs, as I assume it does in the Ukraine.

    My point being....

Here was a young man, what about 21 years old, possibly a conscript, who had a gun shoved in his hand, and was told to go and fight. Much like the men who were Ukranian, there was no choice in the matter, you fight.

He wrongly killed a civilian, supposedly on instruction, who knows. But he is but a minion, a lemming, who was used in a tool of war and destruction. Something the men of the UK and America will probably never have to face in the same way.

Yes, he should get life, but life meaning life should be reserved for his commanders, unless they will face the death sentence when brought to trial, otherwise justice is NOT being served in a way that I feel is right.

Anyone of us could have been that 21 year old lad, I wonder what choices we would have made, placed in his situation, by the governments of the world.

You will note leaders never die, they just send their matchstick men to risk their lives.

I don't disagree with any of that, but law has to be enforced to keep meaning behind the law. It totally sucks for that poor kid, and all the tens of thousands who were conscripted and sent to die on a fool's errand.

No, so we can only guess at circumstances, evidence, etc. No one knows how just or unjust it really was.

It's defo a good cause but you didn't click on the link? ... bcos I'm genuinely surprised you didn't rip the piss out of each of the targets raised... so I'll do it. 19% for Pogba's signed shirt <laugh> 60% for 4 home games ffs :bandit:

Ronaldo and Bruno's signed shirt oversubscribed so they stretched the target from £1000 to £10k & £5k <badger>
