The ageless debate about who you support, how long you supported, stories of games from years ago. Some people depressed because they started supporting when City were a PL team etc.
But, WHY do you support Hull City AFC?

I’ll start, seen as it’s my thread & all!

So it was the deep dark summer of 1985, I’d just witnessed Man Utd win the FA Cup Final 1-0 v Everton, despite Kevin Moran getting sent off, I was 13, had mates who supported Utd, had mates who supported Liverpool, I’d gone through all that, but I’d always kept an eye on Hull City. We used to get those Littlewoods Pools books with the tables in them, I’d seen Hull City had been promoted to Division 2, my dad would listen to Radio Humberside on a Saturday afternoon while my Mum went shopping, we’d wait in the car for her, the football would be on, there’d be a jingle pop up, “and it’s there,” commentator style, goal scored, but who was it for? Grimboys, Scunny or Hull? Then it was on to the commentator to explain the goal, Saville, Flounders, or Mendonca at Grimboys, that’s what I remember.
From that season on when we finished 6th, I was hooked, maybe I’m a glory supporter, but I can’t say I saw much glory in those years.
First live game was Hull City coming to Kilham in the late 80’s, winning 10-0, meeting Alex Dyer, Tony Norman, Jobson, Payton etc, it was a dream.
Saw my first game in August ‘91, lost 1-2 to Peterborough, next game, lost to Bury, didn’t go again until last game & beat Swansea 3-0, from then, it was as often as I could get.
These days, not so much, the trek from Manchester, the cost etc, but I always try to get to at least 1 game a season, I’ve managed that except for the 20/21 season.

Simply because born and live in Hull ,,like many young kids I was taken in by the glamour of the top sides on TV at first , but quickly realised when growing up through school attending the local teams games and been disappointed most weeks was miles better then watching the scores on teletext .

Born in East Hull, brought up supporting Hull City and HKR. It's possibly a fault in my psychological make up, but I simply cannot understand anyone who supports another team - unless they have some strong family attachment, grew up there or lived there for some significant amount of time. I had a season pass for Harlequins RU for a couple of years, I loved it and wore the scarf etc, but never did they feel like 'my home team'.

Born in the Avenues, was taken to City by my dad then to Hull KR & Leeds Utd. by my uncle, much preferred City. Started going with my school mates in '68 & never looked back.

Born in East Hull.........not sure I would have used the same reasoning if I had been born in Leeds!

This. Dragged along by my dad at the age of 7 before I was old enough to know better. Couldn't thank him enough now for putting me through a 0-0 with Torquay, a 0-1 v Darlo and a 0-3 v Hartlepool (which resulted in tears after the third) at the tail end of the 99/00 season.

Having lived abroad as a young boy ,my family moved to east yorkshire as my dad came out of the r.a.f. i started going to see leeds but the violent nature of their supporters put me off. I went to see northern ireland versus Spain at boothferry park having not heard of hull city.
I decided to come to see city and as i got off the train at boothferry halt i loved the sound of the city fans. They seemed to take themselves less seriously and the atmosphere was great. That was me hooked

My dad took me late 60’s, I was hooked as soon as I went up the steps corner of north stand and looked out over the pitch. We never had any money so most of my next visits were going in part way through second half when the gates were opened and I managed to catch the last 15 minutes or so.

Born in Hull, my dad started taking me, lucky enough to both play and coach for the club at different levels. It's as simple as that

My Mam and Dad split up in the late sixties which resulted in us becoming homeless. We stayed with friends of my Mam's and for a while lived in a caravan in a pub carpark, before my Mam got back on her feet again. In my mind this was entirely my Dad's fault. When I eventually started seeing my Dad again due to a court order, it was a bit fractious but as he was a massive City fan, and he only got access on a Saturday afternoon, then what to do was a bit of a no brainer.

Going to City became a sanctuary for me. Looking back it was the only bit of my relationship with my Dad that wasn't a seething mass of suspicion and resentment that I was too emotionally immature to understand and deal with. It would take us another 20 years to feel really comfortable in each others company. Even then our main topic of conversation was always City.

He didn't give me a lot my old man, but he gave me a lifelong love of City, and I consider that a great gift.

You are my City, my only City.
You make me happy when skies are gray...

    RIP Dad x

Grandfather and Dad took me to my first game in 1993, since then it's been City and nobody else.

I love watching football and I have a soft spot for Vikingur Gota because of my family, but I've only ever been to see Vikingur once (what a ground). City will always take precedence over any other team for me.

I couldn't help falling in love.

Born East Hull, Dad took me to Rovers when I was 5yrs old in 1959. Late 60's decided to try City as well and have been hooked by both Clubs ever since.
    Regrets? Absolutely none.

Born in Hull in early sixties- grandpa and dad devout City fans since they were young took me to Boothferry park when I was 5......noooo not for me. Left Hull in 76 and lived away since. Started following League in 80's with local Carlisle Team. They were **** beyond belief but every sunday in season was grand. When they folded in 90's started to follow Hull. Started to follow city in about 2010 mainly as a way to reconnect with Dad who has lived in Hull all his life. Had a season ticket for a few seasons , bit hectic when the nearest game for me was Preston or Sunderland away. City now my main sporting interest, sadly Dad has alzheimer's and rarely gets to a game and pays very little interest now which is a shame. Always looking to get a game in when Im back in town- Great now the useless gets from Wearside dragged their lazy arses back into the championship for next season so I can watch the mighty Tigers show how **** the Mackems are!!! UTT
