Well, for all the talk of VAR they might as well have not ****ing bothered. Watched that "tackle" on Roberts on 68 mins 4 or 5 times now and how they could say it wasn't a pen is beyond me. To not even check is ridiculous

Not sure when you mean for that? If it’s Cirkin then there were 8 or 9 Wycombe fouls worse than his yellow and the foul after it which went with no card! It appeared the “league 1 itus” had crept into his game! The penalty, had it been in the prem, would’ve taken 3 minutes+ to decide. It just seemed like they didn’t give a flying **** as it was only league one. Like it just wasn’t important enough to soend time on

Yeah - Cirkin had just been booked and caught their player with another tackle. Wycombe players surrounded Mason demanding a red and Cirkin probably would have seen red if that was a League One ref.

the 2nd part of that 'tackle' was fine, but stewart literally threw himself into roberts which knocked him off balance and out of his stride, without that i dont think roberts would have 'lost' the ball.

you just know if that had been burnley v man city and sterling had been 'tackled' exactly the same way that sterling would have been given the penalty.

Are they using VAR in the championship next season?

I think the fact that we had a decent ref, and VAR, led to Wycombe altering their method of play, they really had to wind their necks in, it hugely benefited us
They were forced to try and play proper football, and they were simply not good enough

From what I could see it was a penalty

Looked pretty certain in the ground and the replays I've watched haven't changed my mind

Not yet. It all depends on funding. This was from an article last year ( before the play offs)

"Pressure will now be on referees in the Championship to get the big decisions right. Otherwise, the introduction of VAR will be inevitable in the second tier of English football and maybe even lower if the money is there to fund the technology further down the pyramid."

Cheers. I saw earlier that the EFL are still to vote on the use of 5 subs next season. Premier League are doing it next year wonder if EFL go for it as well.

There’s an article in the Chronicle where Keith Hackett says it was a ‘nailed-on’ penalty.
Shocking decision and just glad it didn’t hurt us!!

Did anyone stop going loony when we scored either goal and thought "hmm better wait for the VAR check?"

I bet the number who did was single figures

Ref at the game in the stands couldn’t believe it didn’t go to VAR. He said nailed on penalty.

i know many times i have screamed 'penalty' then seen the replay and changed the scream to a muted 'hmm, good call ref'...but even after the replays i was convinced VAR would see an 'obvious error' and at least ask the ref to take a look.

They won't have done, but thankfully, they were " clean" goals, with no hint of offside or owt else. This went through my mind after I'd stopped leaping about the house mind!
