Just watched Nigel Adkins post-match interview and he said that connolly's goal was the 26th pass that lead to the goal. Wow
I was watching the TV feed on here at that moment, and I reckon it was more [although Nigel might have played it back already, so who am I to argue] because Boro simply could not get near the ball for several minutes. They'd been pressurising us for quite a bit of the second half, and when Nigel changed the formation around, it took the Lads a little while to find each other again. But when they did they gave Boro a footballing lesson. That was absolutely magic. Probably the best team goal since the Dell one from the early 80's. No kidding, if ManU had scored it, you would be able to hear the praise from the pundits without the aid of the Radio, TV or Computer. Here's hoping the Football league show gives us ALL of that move, and not just the clever finishing off bit with Lambert and Connolly.
I remember last year, Javier Hernandez scored a header for Man United at Stoke and the media went mad over it, saying it was a sublime piece of skill and the sign of a quality player. A few months later, Jay Simpson scored one that was equally-good, if not better, and it got no recognition other than a 5 second mention on the Football League Show.
Just like Nigel diagrammed it in training...I see him standing in front of a whiteboard with a spider web of lines covering it, smiling proudly and exclaiming "it's just that simple!"
That would be typical of a disinterested media that just wants to have enough time left over to talk about the state of Wayne Rooney's feet. It's also of no interest to SKY to move punter attention away from the Premier league, even though they cover the Championship themselves. Well, at least WE KNOW how good we are.
we almost scored like this against Watford - what impresses me most is that we will probably score more goals like this, it was not a one off. If this goal does not make football league goals of the week I will bang my head against the wall!
i certainly dont need Claridge or any pundit to tell me what a fantastic goal it was i was there and saw it in its whole stupendous entirity with my own eyes and i can confirm it was as reported sublime. For a few minuets it was as if we we were in red and blue stripes rather than red and white 'ole'
A few people have said it wasn't shown in it's entirety on the FL show. Disgrace if not, although let the rest of the footballing world be surprised when they start to see for themselves next season.
They remarked that no one tried to stop Lambert as he jinked around and put it across for Connolly to score. I think we'd broken their spirit by then.
Once saints player puts the extended highlights up, will list out all the passes in much the same way any self respecting Saints fan from the 80's remembers all the passes during this goal...
Sublime football. Shame the full goal highlight can't be found anywhere, maybe someone will put it up on YouTube or something.
Yes. I'm a little disappointed with the FLS. Nigel says there were 26 passes, but we never got to see the full move, and I only learned about it from the post-match interview. You'd think play like that it would be worth seeing in all it's glory. I wonder if the beeb / SFC can make the full footage available on youtube. If anyone gets ahold of a link, pleae post it in this thread. That said, we looked sublime.
