Idrissa Gueye refuses to wear PSG shirt featuring rainbow symbol. Homosexuality is illegal in Senegal and punishable by prison sentences of up to five years. It is also illegal in Qatar, where PSG's owners hail from and where the men's 2022 World Cup will be staged later this year. The top Twitter trend in the world on Wednesday was #WeareallIdrissa with tweets sent to support Gueye's stance. The president of the federation Augustin Senghor said the vice-captain of the Teranga Lions didn't "violate his contract with PSG and just needs others to respect his faith" which is why he called him to express his support.
Seems weird that football says it is against Homophobia but holds a world cup in Russia and Qatar where being gay is illegal. It would be like being anti racist but holding a world cup in South Africa under Apartheid. Personally speaking, I see no difference between racism and homophobia. People have a right to hold racist and homophobic views and I have a right to think their ****s for doing so. So imo Gueye is a **** and do are those that support him.
I had more of an issue with the people supporting and calling him a 'real man' than a quiet stance for personal or religious reasons. We're very much told what to support and what to think now and if you disagree then the whole world wants to condemn you. Problem is it's very difficult for a professional footballer to make a quiet stance.
I don't honestly know how anyone can object or be against or disagree with a campaign against Homophobia. For me it'd be like objecting a campaign to eliminate prostrate cancer.
This end of the day he doesn’t go around actively anti the letter people however he doesn’t want it rammed down his throat I meant the message not cock Anyway…I get him…I wish the gay community and the snowflakes would crack on living their lives instead of infiltrating ours on a random basis and making us choose a side. Get on with your lives ****in ****s
I agree and would have no problem with it personally. However there are groups of people who disagree and if we keep forcing political and social opinions on them their stance will harden. It should always be choice.
If he doesn't want to wear a rainbow, why should he? I wouldn't wear a rainbow. If there was some campaign that we all had to wear a rainbow because of gays and that, I wouldn't do it. It doesn't mean I'm anti gay, or homophobic, because I'm not. It means I'm not bothered, I get it, you're gay. Stop telling us all about it, just crack on with whatever you want to do, don't try to make other folk give a **** and then be offended when they don't.
His employer runs a country which is openly anti gay but his footy team wears rainbow shirts and everyone is cool with that and cool with the contradiction but an individual says what he thinks and he’s the devil I’m not anti gay but the letter people need to **** off out of my life tbh.
Once weve established a nice platform on our planet for the letter people where they actually start to affect my children because this **** gets rammed down their throats at school then I will be against these people…so be careful how much ramming society does. oh and plenty other types of people need a platform I shall await their turn in the football world I say green armbands with extracts of the Quran written on them in support of the many Muslims that are persecuted all over the world…cannot wait for this campaign to start one day soon until then bore off
The Blackpool lad that recently came out is probably a better story, for some reason gay footballers don't want to admit they are gay and hopefully this lads actions will lead to more being comfortable with it because I really don't think the majority of fellow players or fans really care. Always going to be a dickhead or two but that's the same in many situations.
Tracy Crouch who leads the review into football, once made a quote about the importance of football to the community, and how it had to be protected, because it can't be like any other business that is just allowed to go under, because of the impact on that commmunity. Sorry but can't find the actual quote. My point being if we believe football really is part of the community, then surely you have to embrace everything within it? Obviously like any job, if your morals and beliefs, don't allow you to commit to the company goals, then you are free to leave at anytime.
But he's wearing the shirt, he's not specifically wearing a rainbow that you'd attach to your shirt, ie like a poppy. That's like saying I don't like orange so I'm not going to wear my Sainsburys uniform, because it's a colour in the rainbow, that's fine, like not wearing the rainbow is fine, just fook off then and find another job.
Does anyone know how many countries in the world there are where homosexuality is illegal ? Didn't know about Senegal for example so there must be quite a few others.
if the orange was to symbolise something then those it ‘offends’ might not wear it because they are fully aware of what is going on here? like the Black Lives Matter campaign where eventually some black men decided to knock it on its head…we of those campaigns that don’t matter will wait patiently till a few homosexuals decide that they’ve had enough of this one so we can crack on with playing football…all inclusive.
