Off Topic Booing the national anthem

So... a few scousers were on the radio today trying to justify the LFC fans booing the national anthem and abide by me.

Their sole argument was that it was an 'establishment anthem'.

The particular scouser I heard sounded like he's walked straight out of a trade union office from the 70's and clearly was far out on the left.. and probably also supported Celtic.

Where do you stand on this issue?

Personally I think the anthem is a song about patriotism and respect for our monarchy and I think it's dogshit that some folk behave that way.

It's easier to just not sing it surely? This mob actively go out of their way to boo.. knowing it will piss off the majority.

 

I like it. The national anthem should be about the nation, not just sucking the dick of whoever rules it.

 

Perhaps the Scunts should **** off to somewhere like Russia.
It's there prerogative to boo who and what they want, but, they shouldn't be surprised that there is an outcry against them. If they can't respect the National Anthem, why should others respect them, I certainly don't. FFS most of them will have no idea whatsoever on the symbolism of Abide with Me. Like sheep, one will start booing and others will follow.

Wrong to boo it but its an awful tune. Think we should have a new one that, like Tash says, is more about the country and less about the queen.

 

Its just a thing to put up with for 30 seconds and for players to lip sync to. It's a bit like the intro music for a wrestler to walk into the ring for.

It's pointless but a tradition, and it's harmless. For some lobotomised minority to make some stupid stand against it in some skinhead/fascist esque "smash the system" bullshit is ****ish in the extreme. They probably don't even understand why they're booing it themselves.

 

I wouldn't boo it but I don't like it and wouldn't sing it myself.
Some made up deity watching over a lady of immense privilege.
I'm not religious or a royalist but that doesn't make me a traitor by any means.

 

Really hope the scousers lose the EPL race and now the CL. Utter scum for me. Just as bad as England fans booing the Italian national anthem.

For British people to boo our own anthem to me is pretty disgraceful. It's self defeating and destructive. Don't have to join in, but the lack of respect for our own country is shameful in my book. It makes me question if I really would really be willing, though within a few a few years of retirement, of defending my country if needed. Why should I defend those morons? Sad.
