Good Morning. It's Wednesday 18th May, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road. Phillips could be sold for 30 m Newcastle Utd are favourites to sign Kalvin Phillips this Summer, according to the back pages of many tabloids. Rumours of Phillips departing Elland Road after twelve years, escalated several months ago when the England star dumped agent, and long term friend, Kevin Sharp. This occurred whilst tense negotiations were being finalised regarding a new long term contract at Elland Road By sacking his agent, talks came to a sudden halt. Phillips has been linked to Aston Villa, Manchester Utd and now Newcastle Utd. To make matters worse, it is being reported that a fee of 30m would be enough to bring him to St James Park, assuming Leeds are relegated. If they avoid the drop, that figure is doubled. Less than twelve months ago,Kalvin Phillips was named England's 'Player Of The Year'. please log in to view this image ER board got the timing of Bielsa's exit all wrong Ian Wright believes Andrea Radrizzani got the timing of Marcelo Bielsa's exit all wrong. The Argentine was given his marching orders at the end of February after a succession of poor results, saw them accumulate 23 points from 26 games, conceding sixty. The Former Arsenal and England star was discussing the timing of Bielsa's exit on his podcast 'Wrighty's House.' Whilst he admits that 'Bielsa has to get love for what he'd done for Leeds' during his three and a half year tenure, he should have been fired prior to the end of February, giving a new Manager 'time to get the team playing in a different style'. "I think they should have got rid of him [Bielsa] earlier, given someone time to really change. Simply because, whether it's Jesse Marsch or whoever it is, they needed time to really get that team playing in a different style. Bielsa has to get love for what he'd done for Leeds but it comes to a time where somebody has to make that decision." "Let's face it, I don't want to go with big club bias but Leeds need to be in the Premier League. They make it exciting. They should have done that earlier." please log in to view this image Fans have their doubts about Marsch Former player, now pundit Chris Sutton believes the Elland Road faithful have their doubts about Jesse Marsch. Whilst few would expect, an in-coming Manager to be greeted with smiles and hugs following the brutal sacking of Bielsa, the former striker is of the opinion that many Leeds fans have reservations whether Marsch is the right man for the job! It was always going to be a difficult introduction. American Coaches don't have a great reputation in football, and bringing one in to replace an iconic figure that has such a great bond with his audience was always going to be an uphill task. According to Sutton:-"There's something not right at Leeds, though. There seems to be doubts over the manager, I think from certain sections. I was at the game and the fans went from 'sack the board' to 'Marching on Together' in thirty seconds. There was fury inside the stadium, all of a sudden the goal, the relief and it was a big goal. "I worry for Leeds if they get relegated and there's a strong possibility they will get relegated. Raphinha's been linked with Barcelona, looks like he's going to go, their key man. Kalvin Phillips - another one - will he want to hang around in the Championship? "I'm worried what could happen. A lot of Leeds fans, they loved Bielsa, absolutely loved Bielsa. I think we've talked about Leeds a few times and talked about what is their identity under Jesse Marsch. At the weekend, Brighton should have been out of sight. Leeds got away with it." please log in to view this image
If we agree to Phillips leaving for 30 million then we deserve to go straight to league 1. He's worth more to us in the Championship than that and then let him go for free.
Good morning all Zero hour is fast approaching a win for Burnley 8.00pm Thursday, and it would be all but over, even a draw would make it very very difficult. But we need to stay positive, as we have a great relationship with Villa Agree with Ian Wright, we left it to late with Bielsa’s dismissal, a run of very poor results, plus the lack of activity in the transfer window, and the writing was clearly written on the wall, for us the fans, and everyone else to plainly see, apart from it seems them who matter Bielsa/Orta & the board. After all that building and hard work to get us to rise from the ashes, Bielsa/Radz etc seemed to have done the hard part with ease, and ahead of schedule, ------------------------THEN BLEW IT
Morning all. Looking at that picture of Jesse Marsch suited and booted does anyone think he looks a right knob in his tight jeans and sweater on the touchline at ER ? Does it even matter these days how people present themselves in football as players wearing match day suits ended years ago. My view is he looks like someone who's just come to watch the match and therefore a bit ridiculous.
I can’t see how relegation would affect Phillips’s valuation tbh. If there are at least two clubs vying for his signature, and they know that he’ll cost at least £60m if Leeds are still in the PL, they’d still be prepared to pay that if Leeds go down. There would be a bidding war for him. The only way he’d go for £30m is it’s already been agreed, and he’s already signed a pre- contract agreement with a specific club - which wouldn’t be right.
I'm still baffled, thatca players worth halves if a club is relegated, Villa signed Buenida, for the same fee they were quoting as a prem club. As Emu says, £30m, no thanks, means more than that to get back up, if they want him then they have yo pay the going rate, £60m, is about right.
Sooner Sunday is come and gone the better. The thoughts of flogging Philips for 30m and Raphinha then paying 20m for Augustin smacks of last time we went down. Millions thrown away due to daft contracts. Hopefully the Gods will feel sorry for us on Sunday
Regards Matsch, think he was on a hiding to nothing when he came in,many fans angry at Bielsa's sacking, was going to be difficult for any new manager. Then Leicester, a few started to think , we lost but hang on that was a decent performance but then came the Villa game. Don't think his Americanism as helped, why say 10 words, when I've got 120 to cover the same comment, a bit of brashless too and yes us Brits do see through the clichés and woo woo's but he still deserves a chance with his own players and better squad to cover injuries and suspensions, regardless what division we're in.
… you saying fans who come to watch the match look ridiculous? Outrageous! You more a tucked in Ralph Lauren shirt, chinos and loafers guy yourself Jammy - on a dress down Friday?
Everyone hates us as were Leeds, and judging by everything that's gone wrong this season even the gods. So no good looking to him for help
Spot on Gessa. In an interview before marsch joined Fabrizio Romano commented on marsch, that his one concern was it takes him time to get sides playing his way… and Leeds didn’t have that time, especially changing a unique style and system under bielsa. As per the love in we see here for Eddie Howe (and I like him) even good managers require time. He took 8 points from his first 10 games and only a transfer window and Illan meslier helped change momentum
We all have views on Marsch and some views will change Thursday night or on Sunday. Many many say give Marsch until the first 10 games next season are out of the way. Its a point of view and to be accepted. My own view is that Bielsa changed the whole way of playing and tactics inside 4 weeks. Marsch has had 13 weeks and 4 of those weeks we were not playing due to International breaks. He hasn't got his message over yet, the football has gone backwards. We are conceding less (unless against a top 6 team) passing was bad before Marsch but has got worse. Dont think the players are on board Jesse’s train
Correct that I'm more of a tucked than untucked kinda guy... but let's not get OLOF's antennae twitching shall we
We certainly changed tactics against Brighton. Basicallly back to how we lined up under Bielsa and using the full width of the pitch again. To me that's a positive as all the narrow stuff wasn't working and we looked much better for it.
I heard that was the case about his contract agreement forza, KP and also Rapha can go for 30m if we're relegated, not sure if it's true, maybe some of the more ITK lads, and lass on here will know
