I wouldn't have kept Innis. How can you build a defence round a player with his fitness record. Davison I agree with, even though he didn't excel for us. He's done well on loan. I'm surprised at Washo going, especially with TS's "high-press" statement, but let's see who comes in. Kanu may well break through to the first team this year too, with Leaburn not far behind.
Inniss is (on balance) a liability I'm afraid. One slim hope is that our new Gaffer will be able to man-manage him well and get the best out of him. Assuming he stays fit, which is an even slimmer hope
According to Cawley it's Martin Sandgaard who's lining up the players to sign, with Dad having some input. When you look at the January window, wit John, Castillo and Fraser signed, this seems quite possible, and indicates that we are heading down the Head Coach route. I can't see this setup succeeding, and it's the manager, sorry Head Coach, who carries the can. We'll see how it pans out, but if recruitment doesn't improve it's going to be a long season.
Agreed. If Martin Sandgaard is picking players to sign then Charlton are looking to recruit a head coach, not a manager. And it seems Johnnie Jackson was no more than a head coach as well. At the end of the day it's Thomas Sandgaard's Club. He saved it, he can do what he wants with it. But the way he appears to be reorganising it, fewer and fewer fans will remain onboard. I'm afraid the number of ways that the TS administration differs from the RD administration in how the Club is being run, is diminishing. PL54 posted something on Dick's forum about Jose Riga being in the running for the manager's job. I hope the source of this is a wind-up.
If we're looking to get a manager who knows this division like Ferguson surely he would have to lead the recruitment process.
This is worrying. If TS wants a back-room team to control player recruitment - and even wants a say in the style of play on a game-by-game basis - that automatically means (in my view) that Charlton won't appoint a strong-willed manager with his own firm beliefs on how promotion should be achieved. We'll get a head coach. Presumably one who is OK with just training the players he is given. I'm sorry, but that is far too similar to what we had under Duchatelet. It is not a recipe for long term success.
I'll stick this here for want of a better place. Rumour surfaced on CL that the changing room was very much at war with itself from around christmas, due to having a couple of hard core anti-vaxxers in the midst. The rumour also suggests JJ had lost the changing room. There's no names, but there were a few covid absences around that time so while I have no insider info, it sort of crosses with some of what we saw on the pitch. Cawley saying today that we have been looking at Matt Taylor down at Exeter. I hope we are doing this for football reasons rather than another sentiment fuelled desire to have an ex player in charge. I believe Taylor has been in charge at Exeter for around 4 years, and he took them up the last season. Judging by the twitter stuff that gets bandied about on Charlton social media, he should avoid us like the plague. Four years waiting to get out of league one will have a lot of the fans in therapy, and I can't see TS being happy to watch the crowds dwindle while plugging in 8m per wasted year. I haven't seen anyone on the lists that makes me go wild, but I imagine that the bigger name managers wouldn't want to be pfaffing around in league 1, and we wouldn't have the money to make it worth their while. It would be nice to have a manager though!
i've seen those links. i think it would be a better move for us than it would be for him. he'd be cheaper than Jacko/Adkins, he'd be expected to just play along with the joke of a set up that we have... which manager in their right mind would want a owner and his kid picking the players to sign? he's done well at exeter, on no budget (maybe what's attracting us to him?). he should stay and continue that project. make a legacy for himself. always thought he was a good player though!
75 days to go until League One season 2022-23 kicks off. Less than 11 weeks. We need a new manager in place 7 days from now and not a day later, if the title 'manager' still means anything at CAFC. If all we are really getting in is a head coach, he only need turn up a week before pre-season begins I suppose. That should be around the last week of June.
Well we actually did it and climbed out of the third tier. I'm made up obviously but I wish you lot well for next season. Even though you've fooked us over too many times when it mattered lol. Your a good bunch except if you get back in the champo and beat us in the playoffs you coonts All the best
so pope to move for £20m. we get a £4m cut, if we havent sold that deal already. then we'll start our summer plans?
