I didn't forget Valery, heh. I don't think he's at all an option in a 2 CB setup. He's the vaunted pacey CB, except for the bit where his awareness isn't remotely good enough to be a CB.
I am sure I have read it before. Southampton are considering making a move for Fiorentina and Poland keeper Bartlomiej Dragowski, 24. (Telegraph - subscription required)
If they are willing to spend big and he wants the move then it might be wise to sell. I believe he only has 2 years left on his contract so we either need him to sign a new deal or face getting bent over next summer
The only reason why we should sell Salisu this summer is if someone offers VVD money for him. He still has 2 years left on his contract so we have no reason to sell unless we get a offer we can't say no to.
Probably not, but we do like to accommodate the sale of our players so that’s probably why it keeps happening. It is part of our selling point as one commentator pointed out the other day. We are a development club where players come to improve then move on
I do appreciate this, But he has only had 1 season of premier league games., Im hoping we can Keep him around a little longer! Sell him Next year at least or following.
Well he only has 2 years left so next year we would take a much cheaper fee and the year after isn’t an option. If he won’t sign a new deal of course; which if the interest is true from Barca then you would imagine he is on the radar of other teams as well, so why would he sign a deal and Harry Kane himself?
He’s a lot younger than Harry Kane and we would actually sell him during that contract and not put and absurd price on him that no one will ever pay
Like we did with VVD? If he signs a new deal with no release clause then we will ask for stupid money the first couple of years of the deal. Why would he restrict himself like that if there is real interest from elsewhere?
And only 1/2 to 3/4 of a season of performing well. And it's not like he's gone from excellent to average, he's been awful in the last few months. Whether that is just because his head has gone and he has mentally left us already like with Bednarek, or it's a confidence thing, or if his performances were always just very much on a knifedge. Earlier in the season when he was a beast, he still lunged into challenges and made a lot of last ditch looking challenges, he was just winning them. Not sure a top level club would want that kind of CB. You'd want calm and composed defending I'd think and probably a longer track record of good performances, especially if you are paying a £30/40m or whatever he'd cost. If he does want out and can't regain his form because of that, I do think we should sell him, even though that means the need for two new starting CBs (assuming Bednarek goes too). Lets face it, theres plenty of room for improvement back there and a total refresh might not be a bad thing. If we can convince him to sign an extension, whilst allowing him to leave the following summer if a suitable bid comes in, and are confident he will knuckle down and get back to his early season form then I guess that would be the ideal situation.
Yeah because VVD has played amazingly for us this season hasn’t he ? We kept him for six months longer than what he wanted and sold him for a price that someone would and actually did pay. It is not like Harry Kane at all. The price Levy commanded given his age was basically a “not for sale” statement. The situations are not the same. If he had “Harry Kane’d” himself by signing a contract with us then he would still be here. What’s to say we wouldn’t offer him a release clause?
Well we kept him for six months where he barely played so we were forced to sell him because, you know, we priced him out of a move just after he signed a new deal. Kane would’ve had a lot more leverage to get the move he wanted if he hadn’t signed a new deal, like any player whose contract is running down. We might give him a release clause, not sure we have ever done that before though
I’m confused as to how you are saying we priced him out of a move - he moved so that can’t be true. But something might be getting lost by the nature of this being a typed exchange. Some crossed wires I expect. I appreciate what you are saying that he has more negotiating power if he doesn’t sign. But players still value security. What if he got a Tino style injury on the first game of next season? Surely closer to mind having watched it happen I wonder how in demand he is really. He was flying high and then lost his head against Spurs. That performance alone is likely to have put some people off. And he has been awful and was even dropped in recent weeks. But maybe he and his agent to have word that there is robust interest I think for some reason I thought Tino had a clause for clubs other than Chelsea. Because there was something like 38m to Chelsea and 50m elsewhere with - percentage to Chelsea which meant the net we receive would always be the same. But I am perhaps imagining that. Might have just been someone suggesting what we would have to sell him for elsewhere to get the same as Chelsea would have been rumoured to have to pay But clauses are not widespread. But if they help us get players who wouldn’t come (or extend) otherwise then I don’t see a big problem. Works for Dortmund
He clearly wanted to leave in the summer as he basically went on strike after that point. By signing his new deal a few months before we stood firm and didn’t sell him when he wanted to go and he had to wait another 6 months. 6 months is a long time in football. Using Harry Kane as the example again City have now signed Haaland so you would assume won’t want Kane anymore. If Salisu doesn’t move this summer Barca will probably sign someone else who may do well and then the door is closed for Salisu But yeah ideal scenario is he gets some kind of release clause everyone is happy with, gives him security and us security that we get a good fee for him if/when he does go
Salisu could be amazing at a higher-midtable team, with the right coaching. Unfortunately he doesn’t suit Ralph’s high-line, quick pressing, type of defending. Too slow for it. Our worst player during our recent bad run.
