Not sure it's true or not but Austin has supposedly said in a podcast that he would have been open to taking a compensation reduction for another year but was never offered anything, no conversation about another year. I reckon we'll need 1 experience striker and Austin was supposedly giving a lot of good guidance to his younger colleagues. He can still score and possibly his fitness has got better recently, after getting his personal problems a bit behind him. And he was ours. I certainly think a conversation about his compensation package for another year, and if that was doable another one with the new Head Coach, would have been worth a go.
Precisely, from the Talksport YouTube clip, it seems as if the club had made up their mind about Austin. In any business, the right thing to do would be to sit down and look at options. I think a frank and open discussion about his fitness and lack of form would have been a good place to renewing his contract for another year and negotiate on a lower salary rather than the apparent lack of discussion and simply saying sorry Charlie, you no longer feature in our plans. Where it is blindingly obvious that we need a player who knows how to score on a regular basis and given that Charlie has demonstrated that he is still capable he would have been a good back up striker or impact sub. Poor management handling by Sir Les and Hoos again.
Has Mitrovic got pace? I'm not a follower of him but I'd have thought Gray was at least as quick probably faster, probably not Austin now but earlier maybe.
Quite a long, candid interview with Charlie on the Open All Rs podcast... https://open.spotify.com/episode/3T...i=A3jjsH7mTFi8rWkDuG-JvQ&utm_source=copy-link If half of what he says is true, then there's some problems at the helm of the club. The way himself and other players who's contracts haven't been renewed or even had negotiations start is pretty shoddy. Definately says he would have signed a new contract if it had been offered, even if it was.on reduced terms. He's got a lot of good words for Warbs, and thinks he was a victim of his own success and that the club have let him go too soon. At one point, Bianca comes on and gets quite emotional - Dotties dad was one of the guests so they talked about all the great work the Austin family have done for them.
Trouble is the ‘on a regular basis’ bit. Its been painful to watch him this year, even in the early part of the season before his ‘personal problems’. If the medical team think he’s shot, as seemed horribly evident by the way he warms up and grimaces after even little run, why discuss it with him? Lets see who else offers him a contract and at what level. If its another mid table championship club, we might have cocked up. No excuse for not treating him, and others, with respect and dignity though. We do seem to be losing our way again
The usual arse licking of Warburton. So according to Clive, the only certainty going forward is that things won't be as good as this season. Really? Finishing lower and with less points than last season? He's right about the state of the club overall, but his blinkered love for Warburton is quite disturbing. Bonus points for anyone who can name the song and musical he references.
I spotted the bit that could be a song, and knowing your recent performances will take a punt on I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables.
Makes it just about worth reading it. Completely self contradictory, the usual praise of Warburton then two paragraphs on the criminal underuse of some of the home grown younger players, emphasising (correctly) that this is essential to the ‘selling club’ philosophy. Well, who picks the ****ing team?
Exactly. Clive has tied himself in knots over the past few weeks, determined to defend Warburton to the hilt whilst trying to explain away all his failings. By the way, how did you get I Dreamed A Dream from the words in his report? They are from the song, but I wouldn't have thought you'd know it. I suppose you just googled the quoted lines?
I gave myself some bonus points for correctly guessing that you'd have a wee rant about Clive and his views on Warburton It's done now, let's hope the board and Les have got the man they want....it stinks the way they have conducted themselves. Whether you wanted Warbs, Charlie et al to stay or go, they deserved to be treated better than they have been.
Who is it that keeps saying “stop regurgitating the same stuff” …. Oh it’s Col … Col, he’s gone let it go now and stop regurgitating the same stuff.
