As it's the first race at Chester tomorrow, better get this in early: In the 13:30 at Chester, Count D'Orsay could be a surprise packet in this 5f. Sprint. The Dandy Man gelding has the widest draw but this could pay off as, hopefully, he will finish strongly on this soft ground? Tim Easterby's stable has started the new season quite well, considering it usually takes a bit of time to get going. Stable jockey David Allan on board for the Easterby yard. 11/1 best price and generally-available at time of writing. E/W definitely the best option at these odds.
Morning, team. Nothing fo me today. Have been looking though at the Goffs sale later in the month - https://www.goffsuk.com/sales-results/sales/spring-hit-ptp-sale-2022. A wodge of lots come from Seven Barrows (12) including both The Lieutenant's runners in the 3.00 at Market Rasen of the morrow. Also loads entered in the sale from the yards of both Mr Nicholls and Alan King. Meanwhile, am guessing the headline lot is that old fave, If The Cap Fits from the Fry barn. Meanwhile, if anyone wants any free bloodstock advice the most interesting one for me would be Alan King's Robiola. This 4YO was deemed borderline 'reincarnation of Pegasus' at one stage but after 2 highly promising bumper runs his form, thereafter, rather fell off the old cliff. Even so am somewhat surprised the Munir / Souede axis are opting to sell. Rejuvenation possible and all that... Also a nicely bred sort as the dam is a half-sister to 4 black type performers on the Flat and also Hoo La Baloo who won 10 times over hurdles and fences (including at Grade 2 level). He also has options as well as Robiola doesn't have to remain over hurdles. New connections could, possibly, explore a Flat career. Robiola is the sort who could go for an awful lot or next to nothing such are the uncertainties of racehorse purchasing. That, I guess, makes his sale all the more intriguing!!! Anyway, I've waffled on somewhat (but this is a sale to closely look out for, people) so will end by saying - good luck all.
Huntingdon 15,55 Nazwa 9/1 e/w bet365, 8/1 WH and Lads Stamina to prove, but second run after WS and worth a small e/w with three places.
Old boy, the sales got me pondering a few things, one being about which trainers have had a wonderful season and which, to say the least, have been very dire. So as I always do, I ran it through the database!! Ann Hamilton has a staggering 39% strike rate with 13 winners from 33. Staggering effort. Richard J Bandey has 18 winners from 69 and a strik rate of 26%. I do wonder what the J stands for!! Then next in the list, it shocked me to see a certain name.... Donald McCain!! 25% strike rate with 133 winners from 531 runners. Some season for the chips man. Milton came in next with 24% strike rate. He is some trainer. Then the big guns start with Mullins also on 24%. Sarah Humphrey, Toby Lawes (one to watch), Gary Hanmer all beat Paul Nicholls on % winners and that wraps up the top 10 with the inclusion of good old Gary Moore. Flip it around and some yards have had an awful season, Jimmy Frost hasn't had a winner from 49 runners. Nick Gifford 2 winners from 93. Andy Irvine good form of last summer came to a rapid halt with 2 from 76. Shark had just 6 winners from 159!! Sheila Lewis 3 from 71, which is slightly better than Paul Webber 3 from 72. DJ Jeffreys 3 from 66 is a shocker, Crawford with 11 from 195 is another that caught my eye. However the one that amazed me the most was Warren Greatrex with 10 from 165!! TEN... Rebecca Curtis with SEVEN winners and David Bridgewater EIGHT winners. So leave it with one question... which trainer has had 463 runners since 1st September 2021 over jumps, and has only had 38 winners? The clue is that he is Irish based.
Very, very few Irish trainers would have had that many runners so the list of potentials must be quite short. Is it Gavin Cromwell??? Nice, incidentally, to see you name check Toby Lawes. Agree he is one to watch. And that is hardly surprising considering who taught Toby everything he knows!!!
Would you believe it, second again. However, I'm happy with last night's price e/w, so not so bad. Just could not catch the winner after running-on from a long way back. Good effort by Count D'Orsay.
Think you've been a tad unlucky, it looks to me that the ground has dried out further, and I think that is the difference between that bet winning and just failing.
Thank you, Nass. Yes, I was worried about the drying ground, often a problem with a bet 'yesterday', so to speak. No one on here likes excuses, including me, so I just kept it brief on the race afterwards! Do you happen to have any 'medicine' for 'seconditis'? I know your answer - 'Pick a winner'.
