Not a fan of Gooch, he puts a shift in, but now we have younger better players than him in all the positions he covers, good sub at best imo.
The younger players need to put a shift in and they'll keep their place. Gooch provides the manager with more options. Neil can take off Cirkin/Winchester, for example, and leave Gooch to fill in. His place can be taken by Neil/ Embleton/whoever so which is like having two subs for the price of one. Hope that makes sense.
He's a good utility player to have in the squad. He's a hard worker, adaptable to a number of different positions and always gives 100%. He's got good ability, but,in my opinion, it's his decision making which lets him down.I don't think he's an intelligent footballer....he often wants an extra touch, particularly in front of goal,he holds on when he should pass,he passes when he should hold, he gives far too many silly free kicks away when there's no need. He should know better by now really.....he has the experience. I think I'm right in saying, apart from JD,he's the only player in this squad to have played for us in the PL.
I agree but we are a better side when Gooch plays! The other options have more skill and better football brains. They don’t have Gooch’s tenacity and strength though, which we need plenty of.
I would agree that we are a better side when Gooch plays well...... That's certainly my perception anyway. We create more as team on the days when he is not causing moves to breakdown all the time. I'd love too see one of those points earned to player rating comparisons.
Charlton Athletic can confirm the departure of Johnnie Jackson as the club’s Manager. https://www.cafc.co.uk/news/view/62712708a9d7b/johnnie-jackson-departs-as-clubs-manager
Surprised at Charlton's form falling away tbh, they looked well capable of a play-off place at one time, pleased about it though, not keen on meeting them at Wembley again any time soon. MK Dons or Wycombe will suit me fine.
