KLP is a good player for us. He’s our best player in fact. However, he can be better. I think when you compare him to a player like Brennan Johnson, who is his contemporary, similar age etc. it’s obvious that he can and probably should be better. That being said, it’s difficult for KLP when the club relies on him as pretty much our only real attacking threat. Johnson doesn’t have to carry Forest the way KLP carries us, which I think hinders the latter’s development.
He's probably improved a bit but I don't think think it's all that much. Id go back further to the start of last season and he's certainly not progressed as quickly as I hoped. Even comparing him to our other young players, Greaves is light years in front of what he was when he first broke in and his progression this year has been great to watch. Even the progression of Slater has been much quicker too. He's gone beyond Doch this season and he just keeps getting better and better. And I'll throw Bernard in too. He's improved tenfold, and been unlucky not to play more recently
Exactly some either don’t see that or just choose to ignore it because Bowen did it after 2 full seasons at this level, even then he was playing with Grosicki still.
Bernard got worse as the season went on. He was terrible just before he was dropped. It’s hard for an attacker to progress when all he’s got is 1/2 chances a game. Much easier for a defender to when we are the defending team for probably 75% of the game. This is pretty logical stuff that I don’t know if you just choose to ignore when talking about KLP…
We were completely bullied in every part of the pitch today as in 2nd half at Millwall. Huge amount to think about and if we think it was just 'a bad day at the office' I'm not sure we'll address the problem properly.
I’m sure I’ll get a yawn for this but KLP is a finisher not a right footed left winger . He’s wasted there , give him space and ball facing goal on the edge of the box and he’ll prove it . Most of the time he’s working in from a tight angles on the left with little or no movement i or around the box to a pass to .
Bernard didn't get worse at all. That's just silly, he came in as really error prone and improved a lot. Yes, he still had the odd shakey game but he was miles better. There's always an excuse with KLP though why he isn't better. He missed tonnes of chances including a good 6 absolute sitters, I've not really seen much improvement on that from last season either. We only ever seem to see glimpses. Today's game should have been perfect for him. First half especially it was open and Allahyar was causing them kittens first 25 mins. But once again he was quiet and we only got that one glimpse from him where he created a good chance for Smallwood. This feels too frequent even when he scores. I just want more from him as he's certainly capable. As JHE said earlier, most of his shots do end up in row Z, his left foot still needs a lot of work, and his crossing needs to keep improving too. It feels like KLP can't be criticised because he's a local lad. I'd be happy if we swapped KLP for Morgan Rogers
West ham for one. Your half right on spurs though, although they didn't go to watch him, they went away very impressed. One other who I'm not going to name though as it was me who did the scouting report for them
It’s not an excuse it’s context. Morgan Rogers? Based on what? And Bernard did get worse he was good when he first came in and developed the error proneness it was rightfully dropped when he was. Grant picked Jones over him when he was fit and Shota is doing the same thing. Players miss chances, he’s young he’s raw. You just seem to not wait to dig into him as a player. You were silent last week.
I'd be staggered if someone didn't make a real play for him. I'd want £12m mind based of past fees for similar young British CBs (Konsa & Collins) Based on when I've seen Rogers for Man City & Lincoln, he's going to be a real player. The Bournemouth loan was a step too far, and I think if KLP would've gone to Bournemouth last summer, he'd have really struggled for minutes too. You could get Rogers for probably £4/5m this summer and he'll triple in value if we give him minutes. He is raw, but he's only 19. I felt he should've stayed at Lincoln this season as he'd have done great
I used to sit with Mark Greaves dad in 3 tuns back in the day, and he never tired of telling us how good Mark was, and he was ok, I did work at Marks house and we we used to chat for ages about City, a local lad who loves the club, he must be bursting with pride at how his son is doing in the Championship, a level Mark never played in. Jacob has played well in a poor team and has looked good enough for a shot at a Premier league team, not a top one, maybe a newly promoted or a lower table one, I hope he, along with KLP stays, because it makes me proud to see them play for our club
I think it’s the right kind of profile we’d have to look at to replace him but to say you’d swap them is a bit odd considering he’s had a good season by 99% of people’s standards and the fact you think he could’ve done so much better shows you give him a lot more credit then you seem to on face value. 11 goals 3 assists for a 21 year olds first season at this level is very good. He gets in good positions and should score more agree but that’ll come with maturity, experience and hopefully work ethic on the training ground. Development isn’t linear, he’s played an awful lot of football this season with no break. A lot of external pressure on him as an individual in this team to perform, you’ve said it previously some proper competition could/would do him the world of good. Greaves does have the higher ceiling for me though too but we should definitely not be accepting offers in the low 8 figures this summer for me because after a good season at the right end of the Champ you’re looking at £20 million easy.
Well, this was a game whereby Shota tried to be a bit more attacking minded and found out that our midfield is just not good enough to have one less body in there. Once we had gone 2-0 down, then the "on the beach already" mentality crept in. Things improved a bit second half when Slater came on, but the damage was already done. McLoughlin has disappointed me of late, he is terribly slow in both movement and thinking, hopefully, this is just down to a long season. We were just poor all over the pitch, they wanted it more than we did. Shota was really taken back by this performance and is certainly not a happy chappy. I just hope that they have got the bad one out of their system, as we don't want a similar performance against Forest.
All the talk about Greaves and KLP, yet no mention of Fleming? Odd. As good if not better prospect. A few months older, but lost of few months progress due to long injury.
I think Greaves is a better player than Stones was at that age , he’s better on the ball ( except the odd mad dribble near his box)LOL
!! The same John Stones who at Greaves's age had been a regular with England U21 and started playing for the senior team, had already had 3 years in the PL with Everton, and whom Man City thought good enough to buy? OK. Got a feeling there's just a tad of home bias creeping in.
