Good Morning. It's Thursday 28th April, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Manchester Utd to pull out all the stops for Phillips

Manchester Utd are prepared to pull out all the stops to bring Kalvin Phillips to Old Trafford this Summer. The Red side of Manchester are expecting Matic and Pogba to move on and are desperate for someone of Phillips stature to plug the gap.

Phillips future at Elland Road hangs in the balance after sacking long term friend, and agent Kevin Sharp last month, putting an end to weeks of contract extension talks. Rumours suggest that despite his love for the club, the Yorkshire Pirlo wants to be playing Champions League football and winning trophies. Whilst they finished ninth last season, the club's blatant disregard to invest (whilst riding the crest of a wave) may have damaged them irreparably.

Would you mind Phillips going to MUFC if they paid more

There has always been a bitter rivalry between the Whites and the Red's, though it pains me to say, the scenario today is more like David and Goliath. We had the chance last Summer to attract top talent to a new exciting and vibrant club that were going places, yet were happy to rest on their laurels; and as such, we can't complain when our top talent look for escape routes.

Leeds don't have the spending power of Manchester Utd, and have not even received a transfer fee since the 19/20 season. If the likes of Phillips are to move on to pastures new this Summer, shouldn't they go to the highest bidder, regardless of who they are?

Radz can’t make it on £50m spends

Former Crystal Palace owner, now pundit on talkSPORT, Simon Jordan, believes Andrea Radrizzani needs to splash the cash this Summer if Leeds are to climb the table next season. The 54yo ultrapreneur believes a club the size and scale of Leeds should be challenging for a top eight finish, but insists the Leeds owner will need to part with 100m plus, this Summer to make it happen.

“If they come out of the blocks in the summer after surviving in the Premier League, and learning the lessons of what it looks like – one season everyone being enthused by you, the next season people being worried by you – a change of culture, an American coach, American ownership model going in there as well, maybe they’ll come out swinging with a £100m-plus worth of spend and support that observation."

“Because I tell you what, the size and scale of that football club, every day in the top half of the league, every day in the top eight of the league, because the scale and passion and commitment and history of this football club and the feeling about it, is there."

“Now they’ve got to match it with the dough. He has got the ability to do this because he knows his way around the media world and they have got American investors." “So, I wouldn’t be surprised, if he’s going to make this sort of claim, he can’t make it on £50m spends. He can’t make a case for Leeds United to be a top six side on £50m spend, he can’t.”

Leeds need to be ambitious as a club

Speaking ahead of the visit of Manchester City, Raphinha is convinced that Leeds will avoid the drop this season. Speaking to Adam Pope on BBC Radio Leeds, the Brazilian Wizard is also confident that the Whites have the potential to be a major force again, but not anytime soon!

"Now Leeds need to be ambitious as a club. They need to stay in the Premier League and then improve season upon season, try to get back to where they were not long ago, fighting for titles and trying to get back into Europe. "I think that's what will happen. It's not going to be this year, obviously. It might not be next year. But that is the plan."

"We have what it takes to stay up," "I want to play in THESE games. I want to play against the best teams in the world. I want to play in every game, against everyone - but in particular these kinds of games because they really fire me up."

IF kp goes. I for one won’t blame him he deserves the chance to go to a champion’s league club or one in serious contention for it. I don’t care who he goes to… frankly whoever offers us the most money.

Simon Jordan is right. He might be an arrogant fcker who works for a terrible radio station but he often speaks sense.

Good to hear some fighting talk from Raphinha, let’s hope he backs it up with a fighting performance. To be fair to him I think he does put in a shift, he just had a dip in form. Personally I think he is a bit of a streaky player, but signs he’s getting it back. We need his A game for the run in.

    Morning all

If any of our best players left to join any PL rival I’d be disappointed but it happens. If he joined Arsenal, Man U, Man C, Liverpool or Chelsea it would have the exact same effect on us as a club. We’d receive money and teams already out of our reach would become even stronger. Assuming we don’t get relegated it’s better he joins one of those than a Villa or West Ham

Phillips was pivotal in a Bielsa team, he’s a very good player but without Bielsa at the helm I feel he is easier replaced. I don’t want him to go but I’ve resigned myself to the fact he will. He’s body language after the Palace game was so different to previous times.

Hopefully it will be a bidding war for both him and Raphinha I’m guessing around £130m for the pair of them. Sad and I’m not convinced we’ll spend it wisely. Previous seasons players wanted to join Leeds because we were on the up and Bielsa had a huge pull now we will need to persuade players to join a team that just avoided relegation with a coach that’s a bit unknown and again I’m assuming that (avoiding relegation) is the case.

    Morning all.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Phillips goes and I would say good luck to him. He's not going to be winning anything or playing Champions League anytime soon with Leeds. But he will leave with a semi legend status (in the modern Leeds sense, I'm not talking Revie era greatness), but if he goes to THEM then all that will be quickly forgotten. I would like to think that he wouldn't be daft enough to go there anyway, not if he ever wants to set foot in Leeds again. But with his gran now sadly departed, and the fact he's sacked his long time manager maybe the £ signs will begin to cloud his judgement. Such is modern football unfortunately.

Raphinha is competitive, and wants to win. With Leeds playing narrow, we may see him in more of a striking role, like he did against Norwich

Here’s a potential dilemma for fans and for kp. Let’s park guaranteed champion’s league and pick two ‘contenders’. Let’s say spurs offered 60m for Phillips and the scummers offered 70m.

Kp wearing that horrible red shirt would be the best thing financially for Leeds.

If he signed for them would he be a Judas putting £ ahead of ‘the fans’ or would he be a hero accepting personal abuse to know he did what was best for the club?

Good morning all, from a warm, sunny Skopje. Sitting eating breakfast looking like I insulted Mike Tyson last night. Only one (major) extraction yesterday, & instead of the other, I got 3 (very difficult, apparently) root canals. Mrs WJ only had one simple extraction & was in & out in a comparative flash, compared to my 4 hours in the chair. Anyway, it's now all over. I shall be scaring children & old ladies with my face for a few days, but that's nothing new.

Was reading the comments here re. KP. I agree that there should be a premium if he goes to scum, but not money - we simply remove his kneecap first time we play them! Seriously, though, there is no way he's going to scum. He's clearly said on many occasions that he would only leave Leeds for a club in the Champions League. Well, scum aren't, nor will they be in the foreseeable future (or ever, hopefully). So it's much ado about nothing. I also wonder if he'll be able to give a contribution as big as he did for Bielsa. It was a specialised role for him, but now it's a shared role with JM's tactics, so I really don't see him shining quite as much ever again. Don't get me wrong - he's still a wonderful player, but he's no longer in that pivotal role for us - it's all coming from long balls & breakaways these days. (I acknowledge that next season JM might have a quite different approach, as presently it's all hands to the pumps).

Yeh could be wrong but also not sure he’s AS crucial in the double pivot role.

All my focus is on Saturday's game and there's no way I'm going to be distracted by summer transfer speculation.

Just wondered if the thought as crossed anyone's mind that Phillips may have sacked Sharpe because Sharpe was trying to engineer a move away.

It's staggering when you consider we havn't had a transfer fee since the 19/20 season. Some of our recent departee's are still without a club, like Berardi, Anita and Pawel Cibicki (though he is serving a four-year ban for match fixing).

Different circumstances Milky, the club are not currently on the verge of going out of business so it would be a million times worse and no excuse if he signed for them. Plus, for a few extra quid in his pocket does he want to ruin his reputation among the fans of the club he loves, the fanbase that he himself is part of ?

That wasn't really what milky was presenting though Dirty.

The poser was; Assuming Phillips received the same/similar renumeration would he be doing the best thing for the club by moving to Scum if they offered the highest transfer fee ?

Why should Leeds as a club be millions of pounds worse off because of fan rivalry ?

My view is; If there's a chance to have Scum's pants down then we should make them pay the Scum tax twice over and say Kalvin is yours for £90M.

Just think how much they were eventually forced to pay for that big donkey at the back for fooks sake.

If he does go to scum and maybe the story is bollocks, he will be a two faced traitor in my eyes. I despise that club. About not investing in the transfer market, maybe we didn't have the money, the right players might not have been availlable and also the fair play rules may have come into it. I don't want us to do a Ridsdale either.<ok>

I'm sure if he does go that there will be other clubs looking to buy him. I doubt the scum will be the only bidders in town. I would consider a swap deal for Kev de Bruyne from Man city though.:)

exactly Jammy… my point was you could argue in the circumstances that he would be giving 10m to the club in exchange for a fans backlash. Falling on his own sword for the love of the club.

Agree though £10m not enough of a scum tax.

That ‘keeping out of transfer speculation and concentrating on Saturday’s game’ is going well <laugh>

    Doesn't make any sense.

Kalvin is desperate to play Champions league and win major trophies? Why the link to scum? They are going nowhere fast.

If he went to city to replace Fernandinho then fair enough.

If Declan Rice is worth 150 million then so is Phillips.

Are you sure Jammy ? The words "Judas" and "hero" for doing what's "best for the club". Sounds like Alan Smith all over again to me.

Anyway, let's assume it was in no way referring to a Smith-like scenario but completely unrelated (yeah right !). I don't think many fans would be happy to take the extra £10M and see him play for the scum. £60M from Spurs would do nicely. Now, if you're talking offers of £60M from Spurs or £200M from the scum, then that changes things slightly. Either way, if he signs for the scum he can say goodbye to the city of Leeds forever.
